Hello guys! Problems with the soft top of the Alfa Romeo Spider 939? Here are the most common causes and their fixes. It took months of work to find all the parts and components. Very useful! I also replaced all gas struts on my own, but had to do a search on the market. Here you go with list of compatible struts (not all tested except GSC!): Roof gas struts: Stroke = 40 mm L (length) = 155,5 mm Lower (keeps glass): F(Force) = 200Nm Original: Stabilus 2609NH Replacement: Stabilus 7456VP, 1338DJ, 9461405C02, SGS NL7015, GSC GSC3104 (replacement for GSC3057) Upper (between 3 and 4 arc): F(Force) = 100Nm Original: Stabilus 2607NR Replacement: 4848DZ, 5579XQ, GSC GSC3103

Very useful to see mechanisms. I'm having problems with the roof. It closes correctly, but after a few kilometers it opens a little at the front. It seems to have a screw in a central position, but I don't know if I dare touch it 😂

17:42 That shine on the board is conformal coating. It is to protect the components from moisture.

Brilliant video, thank you very much for doing this. I have replaced all the gas struts on my car already, and I'm sure I will have to do the flap motors at some point. This video gives me confidence to tackle that when needed.

Hi, thanks very much for your video. I have a question, I am currently in the process of replacing the gas struts in my 939 spider roof to solve the problem where the roof touches the rollbars. I have found a supplier for the gass springs however, the new springs that I bought are 2 of 100Nm and 2 of 200Nm whereas the originals were all 100Nm. This was done on purpose for a more reliable and smooth operation and to avoid breaking the glass rear window. Now the question that I have is, where do I position the 200Nm springs and where do I fit the 100Nm springs? Looking forward to your reply.

Hello. The 100 are replaced for the 200 but not for the glass. Those were always 200. Put the 4 at 200

@carellaout7463 was not correct. It was 200 for the glass, 100 for the final lock. Can and should do 200 all around

Nice guide, I have dealt with most of the problems shown in your video, to bad that upload it not so long ago, I could save a lot of money ;) Anywas I still have sometimes problem with closing hood, its stuckig in the moment like in your video in 39:24, but the error is not permament and after around 10s it will move forwad. Mechanic couldn't diagnose it and blamed it on voltage spikes.

@@alfaromeonoproblem Thanks for reply, these gas struts 100 and 200 was replaced 2years ago, I connect Spider to computer and its showing error B1300 and B1306. I know how to handle first one because its related to falp motors and I replaced gearwheel also 2 years ago, but do you know where the B1306 - Tension sensor (low) is? Im closing hood with engine turned on, so for sure its not low Voltage issue.

@alvinek2243 already had two spider with a persistent flap fault code and the issue was the hinges of said flaps

Is it possible to make it an easy manual open and close by removing or degassing the struts? I see on KZbin people doing it with BMW's and the have easy fit kits? Thanks I think this is the way to go as in UK weather is so bad the roof will just keep breaking

The struts actually help out a lot, they ensure that the glass goes across the arches. And help out with the final lock. For the total movement they do not make it harder.

@east2w for manual conversion? That will have to have a lot of engineering. You have several latches that would have to become manual.

@@alfaromeonoproblem as the roof can already be opened manually by unlocking the front and rear bolts with the tool my brain cannot work out why this should be so difficult, I am obviously not to clever 😞 I can just imagine if everything was easily moveable it would be an easy job but obviously not ☺️

@east2w you had to produce manual locks for the several mechanisms to ensure it's closed correctly. Then for the open portion done additional ones.

Worth changing the hydraulic pump fluid every couple of years as this degrades over time and also on the clamshell between the black plastic part and the metal of the clamshell itself there is a channel. Fill this in with black Sikaflex and this will prevent the hood storage area (and boot) from moisture/water ingress
