All the arguments about the Quadrifoglio are valid until you hear and see one in person. I have a neighbor that got a red one a month or so ago and man, it looks like nothing else when you see it coming down the road. In a sea of BMWs, Audis and Mercedes that all kind of look the same and blend in with each other, the Quadrifoglio really stand out.

@@esvignettes7592 That doesn't mean it's good, even the Stinger and most Porsches still offer them. Wouldn't dream of owning an automatic version of my car, even if it was possible to get one with a DCT. The fact cars from the mid-2000s that came with the rare option of a manual are now increasing in price is proof of this. Manuals look bad in terms of performance and on a spec-sheet, and are very good in making supercars much more usable, but on more pedestrian vehicles such as this Mondeo-competitor, it's really not necessary to remove them all together, even if many buyers opt otherwise. There's talk of the new M3 having a purist version that will offer a manual, only with a slightly detuned engine, as today's cars are so powerful and manuals increasingly niche, they don't want to/can't develop a manual box capable of taking more.

George Sidis Myself as an avid motorcyclist, I hear this "reasoning" over & over regarding Harley Davidson bikes...Granted, I have not ridden a HD, but I have sat on one idling at a showroom brand-new....the vibration was shocking, as I revved it simulating some 40-60 mph worth, the vibration quickly became numbing & intolerable....knowing all the specs, steering geometry, power to weight ratio, gas-tank capacities, etc. the only benefit would be a better fuel economy. Much of this type of prattle is similar to the praise heaped upon Alfa Romeos..."never mind the statistics, it;s how it makes you feel"...Uh, no, I don't want to passed up by some soccer-mom in her Mercedes with better "statistics"....& poor reliability & cost of serviceability is not a sign of character or uniqueness...it is just that, reliability & serviceability. The only, only benefit of the Alfa is styling...& even that is debatable.

I have owned 2 Alfas - 2.5 years in total and they broke down; 3 times for this 1st and twice for the second. Ignoring your ridiculous comment of "static now days", I think it is clear the statistics speak for themselves; Audi, BMW and Mercedes make the best, most reliable cars there is and it is easy to market things that are the best - even if you are a crap salesman. I have to say that when I joined to the motorway with the new Alfa Giulia, I forgot the slightly "cheaper" interior parts completely and my senses were concentrated purely to FEELING the car, its behaviour and the acceleration. That was the moment when I fell in love with Alfa Romeo. It makes you feel and most importantly, it makes you feel you're ALIVE. I am a proud owner of an Alfa Romeo Mito. It is my first car and honestly, I enjoy every moment with it. I never intended to buy an Alfa, but this Mito was sold by a local guy and fit into my budget. And than when I first saw the car I was blown - can I own this car? It was super sporty and unique. And than I sit in and I knew immediately that I don’t want anything else. Every piece of it was just in place, and you could clearly see the Italian elegance and style on the interior. People who sit in are amazed that this is a 10 years old car - it looks amazing. Alfas are unique cars and they give you driving experience no other car can give - the steril and ship-like big German cars are chasing me out of the world with their boring design and colour range (you really can’t distinguish between two models). When I was in the Alfa Museum in Milan last year I was blown by their design, their power and their history. After the trip I sit in my Mito like “wow, you are a sport car with a proud history”.

I fully agree. I am fortunate enough to own an ‘84 GTV6, which, because it was one of the cars of my dreams, i picked up 8 years ago when they could still be had for decent prices. I would never sell it, partly because of sentiment, partly because i have no history on this particular car, and probably would never get the best price for it, but mostly because i love it, i truly love it. The way this car makes me feel is indescribable. I also own a ‘02 156 V6 in Alfa Rosso color, and love it nearly as much as the GTV6. The 156 in its own way is equally as special as the GTV6, and other Alfas of old. It is just so different from other cars in its class, in a good way. It is super compact, yet can seat 4 comfortably, the V6 version has a marvelous engine, even though it is front wheel drive, it handles very nice. It looks fantastic, and i honestly cannot walk away after parking it without looking back at least once. My 156 is now 16 years old, and still gets compliments everywhere it goes, and still looks modern in a parking lot full of todays weirdly kinked and creased car designs. Both of them are definitely brilliant Alfas, even though they are from different eras..

There's a bit of exaggeration about Alfa's "disappearance" over the last 25 years. This applies for sure to the Us market, but not at all to Europe, which have seen pretty closely what happened in between. Many models came out, yea all frontwheelers, but some of them where just as beatiful as funny to drive and achieved great success and prizes. Just think of the 155 (DTM champion), the 156 (1997 Car Of The Year), the159 and the Giulietta. Each one of those were sold in hundreds of thousands, in some cases 700,000 (like the 156), that means strong market presence. I didn't mention masterpieces like the Brera and the Spyder, and the GT. The new Giulia marks certainly the brand's "reboot" back to rear wd, but it doesn't mean it's been doing nothing in the meantime, as it may sound.

I traded my Porsche Cayman GT 4 for the Alfa. Of course the Porsche is a better track car mainly due to downforce, the long gears however are frustrating ( I raced 7 years GT 3 Cup cars ) and not very Porsche like. The Alfa is definitely more fun on track , great toque keeps pulling , shifts like a race car only critic are the brakes not feed back at all , that do break though without any fading. Sorry BMW owners , my advise , trade it quickly for an Alfa.

Thanks for your video, As an italian i thank you. The fuss is this: Alfa is the racing Car. 1st world Champion in early racing time. Enzo Ferrari was an Alfa engeneer and pilota. When you say Ferrari you say the Alfa small son. Alfa mix Lombardia North of Italy industrial tradition ( Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili) and greek Roman Southern genious ( Romeo, the Neapolitan Who both it). Alfa since Fascist era was not producing profitt but pure engeneering thats why was not making money and governament both it just to rapresent italian legacy. The 33 stadsle the Giulia the aletta the duetto the 75 etc etc the sz master pieces. Then Fiat bought Alfa and went to front traction ..after alfa 75 is a Fiat with alfa batch. The fuss is that everybody was waiting Fiat to unleash italian crazy designer and engeneers to make an alfa. ALFA is not a practical Car but a concept. Even Giulia quadrifoglio is not an Alfa. I Hope this text will be helpfull

I am proud to say I own the mid-point - the last of the V6 Guigaro-stlyed 156 manuals - its a great blend of sophisticated electronics, real Alfa Busso V6, and wand-like precision manual. Styling echoes that of the Junior, but it is moving towards the Guilia - and despite being FWD, it is a delirious pleasure to drive. Its also a wonder - Alfa is as old as RR, Bentley and Bugatti - and yet it has continued to produce affordable exotica for the enthusiast to this day, despite small production numbers - could you imagine a Rolls-Royce hatchback family car ? Well, thats what Alfa have found their success in making...and given the small production numbers, their ability to function as well as they do function is incredible.

Here in the states, I believe Alfa remains an enigma, a strange Italian job that is sometimes exemplified by a random Spider or even more rare GT Junior. I'm not sure if we know what to think of these little exotic anomalies. I am greatly intrigued by the new Guilia, and hope the hype matches the reality. Thanks for a very informative, beautifully filmed video.

I have a 74 spider and during the summer, I drive it most days. there is just something you can't describe about the experience. you feel one with the car. the sound of the engine, wow I would never, ever consider listening to music when you are driving when you have the sound of that engine. the longer you have owned it, the more you realize how unique it is. a very wealthy guy offered to buy it and people around me said you could ask anything for it, and he might buy it. He came up to me and asked me about it and I just could not do it. I wanted the car and the experience of driving it more than I wanted the money even if it was twice what it was worth.

It's just the sheer beauty of the cars in combination with direct steering & lively engines. I drive a matt grey Giulietta QV Launch Edition and just simply love it. And, where ever I come, people start talking to me about how much they love the design and what a beautiful car it is. That's why I love Alfa. Parking your car and when walking away looking over your shoulder, that's something that Alfa does.

I drove alfas in 70s and 80s truly great cars 1300 gt junior ,1600 then 2000, the finest and best handling was the 79 alfetta gtv . Ive found a good one recently and its as good as i remember it to be .ive driven everything ( im a72 year old petrolhead) alfa is a four wheel ducati ,no compromise to performance ,a car that begs you to drive hard, makes you look back as you walk away and somehow gets into your heart . My porsces and souped up shopping baskets never did . Bless alfa and thanks for this new gem ohhhh at last youve made an old man happy i thought you'd gone forever .ps ive still got three old alfas they're hard work but you forgive them when you drive .

Drive a 155 and you will see that that's not true (yes, the one built one the Fiat Tipo platform). My only remark on the latest Alfa's is that their petrol engines, apart from the Ferrari based V6 in the QV, are a bit soulless.

In 1991, Alfa had already developed a successor for the 75. It had rear wheel drive and it had the transaxle+de dion system that made the older Alfas so great to drive. Along came Fiat and scrapped what Alfa had done and forced them to produce a modified Fiat instead. I didn't say the 155 (or especially the 156) were bad to drive - they were simply not Alfa Romeo anymore and they had to sacrifice an awful lot of technology and driveability because of it.

Janne Selinummi O no. I wish I had not known that. The Alfetta line just kept getting better and better from '74 through the late '80s, and it breaks my heart to think that they were about to take it to yet another level, but were prevented. Fiat management has made its fair share of mistakes

Imo the fuss about alfas is not so much about how good they are to drive, but about how they make you feel. Pretty much all alfas look sensational, sound glorious and have an interior that looks really nice as well. They make your day, your trip, and you feel a bit more special. Kinda like wearing a really good suit: It looks stunning, you feel like a million bucks in it, but you're not going to win any running competitions in it. This is the thing most motoring journos and jeremyclarksons miss. It's not about "performance!!!". If you do a saloon that costs as much as a normal saloon does, you can't put in ferrari performance. But you can put in ferrari feel and glamour.

The Alfaholics creation is truly a thing of beauty and reflects the tuning potential of early Alfa’s but rest assured that a „regular“ Tipo 105 Alfa Romeo (Giulia, Sprint GT, GTV, Spider 1 .. 4) is very engaging and special to drive even with the entry level 1300 twin cam engine (making 83 hp in the mid 60s). The 2000 GTVs made a strong 131 hp from a 2.0 twin cam which was a true revelation (comparable to a entry level sports car in the days). In addition the cars are reliable, had a 5 speed gearbox only rust is an issue and for those who don’t already have one prices went up sharply.
