Radiometer MSM1B Electronic Chronometer tube 1963 teardown

Amazing Radiometer unit from about 1963, it measure the time between a start and stop signal, from 100uS to 10 sec full scale.
it is tube based and full analog, uses a constant current charge system into a very well defined capacitor, even today it will be hard to solve this the good old analog way.

wow you are so kind thinks a lot, manual is from 1960, so my unit can very well be from 1963

I always enjoy the analog equipment that we would use digital circuitry for today. The fact they can stop and store a voltage for display on a meter that is calibrated in time or frequency is mind bending. But there are aircraft still flying with such circuitry in the avionics, so I can say we are still repairing the obsolete gear!

How is it obsolere if you are still using it to fly aircraft?

With this level of leakage sensitivity it can be important to test it closed because tube are sensitive to photoelectric effect

Moro å se flere RADIOMETER instrumenter! Jeg har brukt flere signalgeneratorer, mV metere og klirrmetere fra dem. Sannelig ikke lett å finne manualer, om man ikke har fabrikkens store manual i "blå kopi".. Å søke på nett fører vanligvis ikke frem, kun enkelte fra deres senere tid med medisinske analyse-instrumenter

Meget spændende. Jeg har set en del instrumenter fra Radiometer i mine unge dage i Forsvaret, men aldrig et timing meter.
