I never comment, but this is necessary. Do NOT put a baby barrier up! I had a dog I loved so much, and she got her head stuck in the gate. When she was trying to get her head unstuck the the gate came off the wall and fell over and she snapped her neck. We were force to put her down because she was completely paralysed. It was awful and I would hate to see that happen to little Nala.

It's not very good for puppies to go up and down stairs, i can't remember why, but it's not very good. We have a lab puppy (well, she's a teen), but she is not allowed to go up many stairs, because it isn't good for them! :)

I remember teaching my dog how to achieve the stairs and she was exactly the same XD she's a lab and she could get up the stairs but couldn't get down and cried for ages, eventually she got it though and now she can roam around the house anytime she likes XD
