Love this part 2! So helpful :) Really hope there's more to come like this. If you do decide to deconstruct your workflow further, this is an idea of what I'd love to see: Pt.1 tracking some footage (e.g. a city street with the camera moving forward and rotating on an axis a little) - importing to Blender and adding some CG elements ( ideally 1x static and 1x moving element - e.g. street light with a variety of material textures & a paper aeroplane that flies across the scene). Pt.2 preparing render - Cycles settings (sampling. denoising / openEXR multilayer/OpexEXR, mist pass, cryptomatte) Pt.3 Round tipping with Nuke - Similar to this excellent two-parter I suppose - importing the different passes for the cg elements and doing some work on them to mesh with the BG footage. Apologies if you've covered some of these bits before (if so, would love a link!) I also understand that this is an enormous amount of work so no worries if you're much too busy! Thanks again so much for this second part.

Glad you liked it! I did something similar to what you're suggesting last year. It's this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5KZooGsn7SVm6s I'm planning on updating it fairly soon and going a bit more in depth so stay tuned! But that covers most of my workflow :)

I've been stuck on the logic of this for hours, but after masking out the noise with the cryptomatte, why would the masked out areas with no alpha affect the headlights after multiplying? If the math behind multiplication is AB, then the parts with an alpha of 0 should have no effect on anything. Also, if it does, that makes the masking before multiplying redundant since you have to mask it out using the same cryptomatte right after (I tried disabling Merge7 and there was no change). So what's multiplied over the headlights?
@AlfieVaughan
@AlfieVaughan 8 ай бұрын
Well multiplying it over with the merge node ignores the alpha, it just multiplies the rgb channels. So when I masked it using the cryptomatte that made the areas outside the alpha black. And then when multiplying that over the rest of the car, obviously the black areas affected the rest of the image too. In a normal scenario I probably wouldn't have masked it, it was just for a demonstration in this video

@blenderheadxyz2418
@blenderheadxyz2418 4 ай бұрын
thanks, really good if you start nuke. I got the problem that the cryptomatte passes of the output node in blenders compositor get mixed up in nuke. instead of e.g. object00, object01 nuke only recognizes one object channel. It recognizes the ones in the normal blender output file. Any idea how to fix that ? I can't find anything online.
@AlfieVaughan
@AlfieVaughan 4 ай бұрын
Glad you liked it. That actually sounds correct, they should all get combined into one crypto object pass in nuke. You don't have the 3 individual ones like blender outputs. I don't know why but that's just how they have to be rendered and then in the compositing software they're all accessible as one

@@AlfieVaughan so do people render layers exrs from blender and just enhance them in nuke ?

Yep. It's not just enhancing. There's a huge amount that is done at the compositing stage

@AlfieVaughan
@AlfieVaughan 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks? What was it about the restrictions you found annoying out of interest? Other than the writegeo not working (which I could live without but it is handy) I could happily still use the non-commercial version now!
@DannyshRosli
@DannyshRosli 2 жыл бұрын
@@AlfieVaughan I was using the non commercial one few months back, was really getting into it. Since it was FREE i was keen on learning it all the way, but fast forward a couple month. I'd got an email accusing me of fraud accusations, even tho im not in the wrong my anxiety threw me off. I contacted them and resolve the matter and all is good. But i still have that huge feeling of anxiousness when it comes to using NUKE. I once work in a company where 6 Workstation was being hauled off to the GOV , because there are traces of unlicensed NUKE inside, but in fact it was years old machine, none of us was using it . So yeah, a little back story / haha

If you were just only NC there shouldn't have been anything to worry about but I get how that would be scary. I think generally they only really take legal action against companies who are making money while using cracked licenses etc. Not individuals so much
