Margarine/butter: My daughter informed me (when she was in high school) that her science teacher explained the chemistry of margarine -- It's one molecule away from PLASTIC. Natural butter actually is more digestible.

These things go back and forth. Margarine was initially seen as being better for you than butter. Then finally there was a turn around where now butter is seen as being better for you than margarine. In reality it probably doesn't make a damn bit of difference which one you eat.

48:00 Jim Gaffigan surprises Al by saying they did a TV commercial together for Parkay margarine. Al remembers doing the commercial, but he doesn't remember Jim being in it. Jim says he thinks he was the butter. So I easily found the commercial on KZbin. The butter doesn't say anything. The potato and the Parkay each have lines. I think Gaffigan did the potato voice. I'm guessing Al doesn't remember Jim because they didn't actually meet for that. They wouldn't need to meet for that.

The major reason why comedians are having to get new material much more often than in the past is the internet. Before the internet, comedians could easily stretch their act for really long periods because the only way people would see it was if they happen to see the routine at a local comedy club or if and when they put it on a special. So that number was relatively low until the special would come out. Now in our current times, the second the comedian tries new material, it's already out for the world to see it before the act is even close to being polished. So material becomes dated much much quicker than it used to. Forcing comedians to come up with new shit all the time. That's gotta be tough to do.

Jim Gaffigan, always popular because he's a real guy joking about real events in a real life most people can understand. Never went hollywierd, not a TV Stuffed Suit reading propaganda from a teleprompter. Not obviously spent hours in a makeup chair, not obviously derivative of corporate focus groups and committees. I would say he does work clean. I can play clips for my 93 year old mother. She doesn't like shock or "potty mouth" but she does find observation about couples and adults very funny. "Even" George Carlin, who does some very funny observations right after "the seven words" about movies using the word "kill". And other bits about giving regards or best wishes and stuff. And about washing the four key areas. She repeats that one often: How are you today? "Didn't feel up to a shower today but I did wash the Four Key Areas." With a chuckle. She has half the retirement park in Florida quoting George Carlin because half of what he did was interesting observation about the English language. So keep up the good work. 👍 Incidentally, corker and republibot exploiters should not EVER be able to eat ANYWHERE without being pelted with garbage in my humble opinion. They treat us like vermin, let's show them some teeth!! I, for one, will not march quietly into the night to buy Benedict Donald another gold plated AR-15. Do I look like a lemming?!!

They don't sound the same to me. They both have quite unique voices & conversational styles. Jim's sounding a bit too laid back & Al's laugh sounds fake in the beginning. Guess he was trying to counter balance Jim's drab opening demeanor. He sounds like how some very funny people can, when tired & not in full on performing mode. They found a good balance, in the end. I think now it's because they are both "dry' comics. Maybe that only works when countering other personality types. Then they can come in with a dry comment to cap it off & everyone laughs.
