@DaveMala0 The idea of the show is that. The creator Herman Van Veen had the idea when he accidentally kill a duck. The series is about how to go on and see the life with good eyes even in the adversity. Alfred is that kind of person thanks to Henk. Because as the series progress we will also see how he becames a good person, unlike Doll.

Every time I rewatch this episode I fear the moment when the car hits Alfred's parents and siblings killing them all. And it's sad how they all kept their spirits up and expected to reside in a nice home only to find their ends instead.

I Love Alfred, a beautiful and intelligent creation of Herman van Veen. Furtherlong the series it teaches children about Apartheid and discimination. A cartoon worthy of watching

wow that's some fucking dark shit for a kid's cartoon... then again this is a rather old cartoon before censorship of death got really strict so I shouldn't be that surprised.
@Balnazzardi10 жыл бұрын
ye, well this show also had such subjects as drugs, racism, clear references to nazism and ofcourse Dolf is 1 on 1 Adolf Hitler....so ye, it was very bold show, something you are definitely not going to see ever again from other kids shows. But on the other hand parents should understand that kids dont understand most of these subjects at all...I was like 3 or 4 years old multiple times from VHS and it didnt leave any traumas or marks at me....back then I couldnt understand any of the subjects, I maybe could understand at some level that Alfred's parents, brothers and sisters died, but in all honesty, at that age you really cant comprehend death either. So ye, imo its fantastic show, goes back in the day when I was kid, I could appreciate and enjoy it just as cartoon, when I grew old and watched these again, It was on whole other level when I could actually understand all the rather dark subjects in this show and just think "Wow, this show was and is truly something else". But ye, I just think that some parents are just waaaaay to overprotective...if this kind of show was shown today for kids, they would go nuts, especially in USA...but like said, kids usually cant comprehend such subjects until they come to certain age and I just really wish that there WOULD be shows like this to kids today and not all this completely brainless shit. In the end this show is actually very educational even and the fact that it was not afraid to have quite dark things in it is something that atleast I can appreciate...in the end I can understand that parents want to protect their kids from certain subjects, but in the end they shouldnt be overprotected....I mean at some point your kids start to ask you questions about these different subjects like death for example...and ofcourse you dont want to scare them, but its simply necessary to make them understand that some times bad things can happen in life and sometimes/often you cant even be prepared for it. And as tragic as the death of Alfred's family is here, it didnt leave any scars on me and Im sure it wouldnt for any other child...its just important that if the child has question about such subjects that parents tell them the facts, but in right and proper way. Either way this was rather long message, but the POINT im trying to say here, that Im completely against this kind of idiotic censorship and overprotection we have these days....I mean I DO think that for example the movie/videogame age ratings are good thing to have and I would never let my kids watch or play anything thats not suitable for them...but I would have no troubles showing Alfred J Kwak to my kids one day, even at the age of 3 or 4...simply because I can tell from my own experience that its NOT harmful.

Why was this never syndicated to the US? Topics too adult for the censors?
@aosei-kofi81397 жыл бұрын
probably so.
@Balnazzardi5 жыл бұрын
Considering how USA TV channels have censored lots of stuff coming outside US I very much think this is the reason... Alfred J Kwak not only had this scene, right away showing at the beginning that life can be really harsh and cruel sometimes, but it also had themes such as racism, rise and fall of very Nazi like dictatorship with character who looks very much like Adolf Hitler in it and so on.... So ye, this show would have never passed censorship in USA, likely whole bunch of episodes (some of them the best ones) would have been dropped out entirely. But anyhow Ive always said that when it comes to these things, the people responsible for kids shows in USA seem to be bunch of pussies....even Disney dont have the guts to do stuff like they did back in 90s anymore, like with Lion King or Hunchback of Notre Dame.
