Gaus added all the #'s from 1-100 as a nine yr old in less time then this. He wrote out the #'s from 100 on down for the first few then under them he wrote them from 1 on up and realized that each row of numbers added to 101. Knowing there are 100 numbers in this sequence he knew this added up to 10100 but since he was adding two rows of numbers he divided by 2 and got the correct number of 5050
