If I'm not sorely mistaken, it is done by adding negative 8 and postive 1 ( *remember "x" is 1) see 8 is a *negative* number and, when we *ADD* it to one that is positive which is 1, you are going to subtract it.

You are so right but the easier way is too use 2x +1 make the x into a y make it as 2 apple white is followed equivalent to 4 and 4 comes in the tables of 2 so cut 4 we have 2 again and try to use 4 as a second plan for the addition bec you did it mostly correct but the working was wrong

To add on to this, everthing at the top is being multiplied together. 2x * x = 2x² What happened at the bottom in red was only simplification; it didnt involve multiplication. only like terms were being combined, -8x and x make -7x
