I'm of Algerian descent too and I'm as pale as they come, often paler than some of my caucasian friends, but other people in my family have beautiful darker skin tones and some of us have dark brown eyes and dark hair, while others have blue or green eyes and blond hair. I pride myself in the diversity of our people as I can witness it in my own family and our DNAs. Our culture and our food is as rich as it is only because it's as diverse as it is. I love that you spoke out on the racism, because it needs to be shut down whenever we hear it and people need to be reminded the Amazighs and the dark-skinned and black Touaregs were the indigenous people of our land. I blame Hollywood because they always represent North Africans as Mediterranean looking people, especially ancient Egyptians, which is completely false. Most ancient Egyptians where black looking people of a darker complexion than they are now after the European settlers came in 2000 years into their 8000 civilisation. Modern North Africans are lighter due to European settlers, but nearly all of them have some form of Black African genetics. Look at Mo Salah , who looks very Arabic, but he has natural Afro-hair due to his black African genetics, which might also show why he is fast and powerful. Here's the thing these places where inhabited by the Amazigh people like she said. The Amazigh themselves are a group of many tribes including the Kabyle. They come quite literally in many shades from blonde , blue eyes to black like her grandma. They've always been there and predate the Arab conquest like she said. In some Amazigh families you'll find siblings who look totally different even though they have the same parents. I'm saying this just to say that they aren't only black people who were there. I attended the first Festival Amazigh in Tamnaraset, Algeria over ten years ago. Many tribes came together and it was incredible how diverse and culturally rich they all were.

I grew up in Colorado, I'm black and Christian. I've always seen Algeria as African with Arabs who migrated there. As a child , I grew up African and met North Africans darker than me. I gathered that North Africa used to be mostly Black. As a teenager, I learned how the Arabs invaded Algeria; those who didn't convert were enslaved or killed. I'm a black Algerian, and I've been living in Algeria my entire life, but not once did I have my nationality or my identity as Algerian questioned, although I grew up in the north which is a predominantly white region. Any regular Algerian knows there are black people in our country, especially in the South. Yes, we have a problem of regionalism and racism against foreign refugees from Mali and Syria, but it's not necessarily always about skin color. You shouldn't give too much attention to bullies on the internet. You may not even know from where they really are.

I would say Amazigh people can trace their roots back to Southern europe. While indigenous black North Africans have more northern ancestry. The women speaking in the video however is from the Tuareg tribe. A tribe that can trace their routes far back before the Arabs or many people who are known as the Amazigh people came to North Africa.
