The Happy Camper and his regular canoe mates heads to Algonquin Provincial Park's North Tea Lake to base camp for 4 days. The spend their time fishing for brook trout and lake trout in the neighbouring lakes.
Here's where to go to order a Happy Camper Paddle to help out Project Canoe.

Spring fishing used to be when the park opened. Cold. Then we decided to go Mother’s Day weekend. Much nicer! Still able to do a second trip the week after May long weekend.

We used to go (attempt to go) spring fishing in Algonquin but always fought with ice out then covid. Last couple years we have been going week after Labour day. We would be hit or miss on lake trout in the spring. Fall, we catch lake trout at will. In 3 fishing days, we caught 54! Most we ever caught in the spring, with 4 guys is 27! Pros about fall fishing, water is warm. no danger of dying trying to cross North Tea or Manitou! Cons-NONE.

This brings back memories, I have stayed at that exact site many times over the last 20 years. We used to do a large group trip to north tea every august. We would base camp and spend 4-5 days going around the area just like you did. The old log chutes on the north end of the lake are great fun on a hot afternoon. Great video.

I stumble upon a video of yours, keep in mind I'm on page 18 lol, after a few minutes I'm like kchappycamper.... kc.... look at the book. Ha no way! Yup it seems I have purchased your book and just happened to find your channel. Weird. Thank you for sharing your experiences. Cheers

Ahhh yes, North Tea Lake aka Divorce Lake from when we paddled it during an extremely windy day... LOL.... The waterfall on the portage to Manitou has 2 sections. The larger section actually has a small hole behind the water curtain that you can sit in and look out through the water. It is just right of center (when looking at the falls). Looks like an awesome trip. Nice fish. 👍👍👍

Love your vids. I did this trip in 1983. Looks quite a bit different with man made stairs and the statue plaque. Also the camp sites looks well trodden and beaten down. I did seven lakes over two weeks and never seen another canoe. We rented from Northern Wilderness Outfitters. Looks like the fishing is still good. I have my secret back country spots now, Algonquin is to commercial for my liking, Cheers!

Another very good movie. I have a question about transport barrels. In my country in Poland they are identical but I don't know if they are suitable for coanoe because they are for storing food and hazardous materials. Are there plastic little air vents on those Canadian barrels? They are red or yellow in color. They are inserted between the lid and the gym barrel seal at the rim of the barrel. There is a hole in the cover on the side for this element. There is no point in ordering a barrel from Canada or the States if ours are ok. Can you help me with this question? Maybe the followers will help?
