What a wonderful conversation! You guys reminded me of the Shoshin mindset (初心忘るべからず) as my grandmother taught me all the way in my childhood but these years I had forgotten about it. Can’t wait to read your book!

how about thinking of it as you can do less, produce the same, and the boss doesn’t know you spend half the time skiving?

Assuming you work in situations where not being constantly monitored is feasible. It mostly isn't. That's why they're obsessively pushing for Return to office work.

One of the purposes of this constant conversation about productivity is to set a "zeitgeist" in order to make us feel always behind. We all are supposed to do more and more efficiently. This serves to the owners of the means of production. Only a handful of sectors can harness these ideas in a healthy way.

Ali talking about the Feymann anecdote almost as if Tiago doesn't know about it. I wonder if he knows that Tiago had mentioned this anecdote in his book on second brain which Ali has made a review video about. Either way, both of them are amazing.

Very interesting because there is a hidden paradox. The crux of his book rests on the idea that when gamified productivity because fun and stressful; however, games can often be quite the opposite of fun and stress free (just ask a gamer). So it would be interesting see or if he reconciles this contradiction.

I'm kind of torn I see where Ali is coming from and he has some very good points BUT at the same time Self-Discipline and Grit are proven to be a BIg part behind a lot of people who have been successful and plenty of evidence to back this. I think it's important to have a healthy balance of both.

Hard work, in and of itself, deserves no reward. Consider the classic Far Side cartoon of the fat kid pushing on the door marked pull outside the genius school. He's working very hard pushing that door. What reward does he deserve, and who should provide it? Hard work should be rewarded only when it provides a benefit to the parties providing the reward. Feeling good about the work is a reward we give ourselves, money is a reward given by others.

@@Rayzorbladez I think what @francophysique is expressing is he feels that he was bait and switched. Tiago had a cohort program called BASB. There was an option for a lifetime membership for additional fee. Tiago has changed the business model which means there is an end to the value of the lifetime membership.

Love Ali, but blame that on the Protestantism is so awful… There's literally a text in the Bible that says we are not saved by works. Also, God rested and settled a whole law for a day to rest hahaha. But well.
