After a little more than one day of deliberations, a San Diego jury found Ali Abulaban guilty of two counts of first-degree murder.
The jury found Abulaban, a former social media personality, killed his wife Ana, and her friend, Ray Barron with malice.
Because Abulaban admitted to the killings, the jury was given the task of deciding whether Abulaban was guilty of first-degree, second-degree, or manslaughter when he entered his estranged wife's high-rise apartment and shot her and Barron while the two were on the couch.
"First-degree murder is an intent to kill with malice aforethought. So, you want to kill and you have an evil intent in your mind. Second-degree murder is killing somebody, intending to do so with malice, not premeditated. Voluntary manslaughter is killing someone in the heat of passion," explained criminal defense attorney Gretchen Von Helms.

For many middle eastern men a wife is not just a wife, she is his property. Every so often you hear a story of a father, uncle, or brother killing a female relative to save the “honor” of the family. This could explain the look of shock and disbelief on Ali’s face when the jury found him guilty. It could be in his mind that he’s done nothing wrong. Personally, I can’t believe that any woman would marry a man like this if she had a choice. You’re at the mercy of his moods. The guy readily admitted that he was physically abusive to his wife. Crying doesn't undo anything. If it did, I would have my wife and kids back. I wasn't a good husband, and my wife left me. I've cried many nights, and it doesn't fix any of the mistakes I've made. Don't do anything stupid. Live with the consequences of your actions, Sir.

I will never understand why a person like this cries after the verdict comes down against him. This guy had free will to deal with this situation in many different ways that would not have led to a double murder. Now he has tears for his actions?!? This is a verdict of his own making and no one should shed a tear for him, not even himself. He made this bed, and now he must lie in it.
