Stuart D testy isn’t defined by how angry he was relative to other people Ali g has interviewed. Testy is actually a word independent of Ali g. If you were a bit more socially adept you would have noticed the subtle digs which Chomsky was taking here - “nobody would listen to you as there is no point” stating it in, yes a stoic manner but a subtly hostile one. While I know this was merely a comedic sketch, which, apparently Andy Rooney was not aware was a comedy sketch, it does remind me of my real life encounters with high school kids and even college graduates, who use such urban slang and ghetto euphemisms as a part of their everyday speech. It is frustrating trying to converse with them. Many of them cannot articulate a coherent, grammatically correct English sentence if their life depended on it. While at first, it sounds humorous, it is testament to how badly our education system is failing to instill in our children one of the most important skills in life - the ability to express oneself properly and clearly. As an example, the company I work for utilizes high school interns, who are bound for college. The current intern that we have expresses herself in an atrocious manner, which can be exemplified in a recent statement she made to me: "I be have'n a hard time in school. The teacher is like not interesting, but I still be making good grades." I swear it took everything in my power not to facepalm myself. How in the world did this girl ever get to be a senior in high school, and worse still, how is this girl receiving acceptance letters from colleges? Our education system and our culture is pandering to the lowest common denominator, with respect to language, and the end result is that each generation sounds more inane than the previous.
