I hate the stage laughter. It takes away from the awkwardness that Cohen intended.
@aureliaansah14626 жыл бұрын
LOL. It was not staged laughter, silly. It was a live studio audience for a live satirical comedy called 'The Eleven O'Clock Show', airing live on C4 in 1998 every night in the UK, where the presenters would link to an 'Ali G' skit LIVE. The studio audience were seeing it the same time as the viewers watching at home.
@aureliaansah14625 жыл бұрын
Muntingia Ninja No it's not! I know a family friend who worked in editing on that show. I asked that specific question, & he said there was never a "laugh track". I believe him over your assumptions, lol. I think US shows are more likely to do that, than UK shows. "Canned laughter" IS an American invention, after all.

Sure...whatever. You go ahead & agree to disagree with the empirical fact given before you, lol. No skin off my nose.
@aureliaansah14625 жыл бұрын
Empirical: originating in or based on observation or experience empirical data. Relying on experience or observation alone often without due regard for system and theory.... Capable of being verified or disproved by observation or experiment empirical laws. I know my knowledge to YOU seems based on anecdotal evidence. But, my cousin & I saw it as nothing more than a trip, to watch my uncle work intricately on what he was good at. Additionally, the conversations I still have with him today are just as informative. I'd say, my uncle showing me the differences in sound editing (between canned laughter & genuine laughter, & the reasoning behind the 'compressed' sound) is slightly more than "anecdotal evidence".
@aureliaansah14625 жыл бұрын
I guess you have no reason to believe empirical, practical examples shown to ME. It's anecdotal evidence in respects to YOU because me relaying the experience to you is just that - anecdotal. So yes, let's leave it at that. : )

@Edgehead10075 : you don't agree with that assumption but if you look at countries where there is gun control, you'll see that it's not an assumption. Your murder rate (and accidents) is not just because of guns. "Bowling for columbine" suggests there is also a culture of fear in USA. Guns "less available" means some degree of control. Not a total ban. Like the need for registration, and enforcing people to keep guns in safe boxes (eg. 6-digit lock) when not at home or in a shooting range

@kirked007 Your question sums up my point exactly!. People outside America in developed countries cannot understand USA citizens obsession with guns. Why do people in the USA want to carry guns?

@Seedofwinter The point however is should the government be the one telling you what amount of force is necessary to protect yourself. If a private company manufactures rpgs they should be allowed to sell them to the public. Likelihood is the company will realize selling rpgs may not be great PR so lets not do that. The free market not the govt should put a cap on the amount of force a person can use.

Yeah, which is actually a pretty logical system that's being considered by a lot of states. Raising taxes significantly on ammunition...

Gun controls in any state probably will not work because so many people already have weapons and it is so easy to transport arms from one state to another. Places like Chicago can try all they want to enforce gun control, but people can easily bring in guns from elsewhere. The controls will fail. Even if the national majority wanted to reduce gun ownership or gun crime, it's going to be hard to do as gun ownership has been so widespread for so long
