Automatic weapons, also known as machine guns, can be legally owned by private citizens as long as the weapon was made before May of 1986 and is registered with the federal government. Any machine gun made or imported after 1986 can only legally be owned by a licensed dealer, police, or military.

@aureliaansah1462
@aureliaansah1462 6 жыл бұрын
LOL. It was not staged laughter, silly. It was a live studio audience for a live satirical comedy called 'The Eleven O'Clock Show', airing live on C4 in 1998 every night in the UK, where the presenters would link to an 'Ali G' skit LIVE. The studio audience were seeing it the same time as the viewers watching at home.
@aureliaansah1462
@aureliaansah1462 5 жыл бұрын
Muntingia Ninja No it's not! I know a family friend who worked in editing on that show. I asked that specific question, & he said there was never a "laugh track". I believe him over your assumptions, lol. I think US shows are more likely to do that, than UK shows. "Canned laughter" IS an American invention, after all.

Sure...whatever. You go ahead & agree to disagree with the empirical fact given before you, lol. No skin off my nose.
@aureliaansah1462
@aureliaansah1462 5 жыл бұрын
Empirical: originating in or based on observation or experience empirical data. Relying on experience or observation alone often without due regard for system and theory.... Capable of being verified or disproved by observation or experiment empirical laws. I know my knowledge to YOU seems based on anecdotal evidence. But, my cousin & I saw it as nothing more than a trip, to watch my uncle work intricately on what he was good at. Additionally, the conversations I still have with him today are just as informative. I'd say, my uncle showing me the differences in sound editing (between canned laughter & genuine laughter, & the reasoning behind the 'compressed' sound) is slightly more than "anecdotal evidence".
@aureliaansah1462
@aureliaansah1462 5 жыл бұрын
I guess you have no reason to believe empirical, practical examples shown to ME. It's anecdotal evidence in respects to YOU because me relaying the experience to you is just that - anecdotal. So yes, let's leave it at that. : )

B&B guns in California went out of business around 2001. They were well known for letting LAPD borrow weapons during the North Hollywood Bank of America bank robbery incident in 1997. The Boy Scouts still have shooting merit badges I believe. I have known gun shops that supply ammo for them and firearms at reduced cost or free.

@Bookstop1337 I think I do. Guns to me are tools. They make tasks easier. They are as "good" as the hands of the person in control of them. You can't legislate criminals. By making it harder for criminals to obtain guns, you essentially take them from the hands of law abiding citizens.

@Bookstop1337 I understand your position, if you do not like guns just don't make them a part of your life unless they start to catch your interest. I don't believe someone should only own objects based on their occupation. Is everyone that owns a sports car a racer? No, they just happen to like fast cars. I like guns, and I like military style guns so I have one to target shoot for fun, and I do it safely. Don't let the crazy people ruin what you like because they can't handle problems.

About that family case: Having a gun doesn't necessarily mean no bullet can hit you. You can fire back (or shoot first, as you suggested), but guns don't make you bullet-proof. The odds rising the danger are at least at par to the odds of successful defense, or even higher since most cases don't contain punk monsters.

But this "threat to power" by being armed for the citizenship of today is actually zero. There's no chance to win an armed fight against the government. If this is the actual reason for the citizen's right to be armed, it's not valid anymore.

Also 2nd amendment was created back when guns took 30 seconds to load and fired one shot at a time. Yet people claim the founders somehow knew every gun produced in the future and would still make it entirely the same without any exceptions. I for one wish every home had access to a RPG because they don't kill people people do.

The militia of the 1700's was comprised of all people able to form and fight when needed. The militia was nothing to be controlled by the government such as Army National Guard. Also, the recent supreme court decision, DC v Heller determined the people's right to bear arms detached from any involvement in a modern militia.

They need to regulate guns more. Guns should only be allowed if the person has a licence, which would have an ID number which would be ingraved on the gun. People could not own guns in a built up area; you can only have a gun if your in a relatively remote area eg on a farm, ranch or large estate. For personal protection people could have tasers and mace/pepper spray.

@chilledification If you want to depend on mace or a taser (not tazzer), you have the right to do so. You do not have the right to forbid others to defend their own lives with other means. Their lives are theirs. They don't belong to you. It's simply not your call. That's the meaning of the term "individual rights." They belong to the individual, not to self-appointed spokesmen for "society as a whole."

@Edgehead10075 : you don't agree with that assumption but if you look at countries where there is gun control, you'll see that it's not an assumption. Your murder rate (and accidents) is not just because of guns. "Bowling for columbine" suggests there is also a culture of fear in USA. Guns "less available" means some degree of control. Not a total ban. Like the need for registration, and enforcing people to keep guns in safe boxes (eg. 6-digit lock) when not at home or in a shooting range

@Seedofwinter The point however is should the government be the one telling you what amount of force is necessary to protect yourself. If a private company manufactures rpgs they should be allowed to sell them to the public. Likelihood is the company will realize selling rpgs may not be great PR so lets not do that. The free market not the govt should put a cap on the amount of force a person can use.

Gun controls in any state probably will not work because so many people already have weapons and it is so easy to transport arms from one state to another. Places like Chicago can try all they want to enforce gun control, but people can easily bring in guns from elsewhere. The controls will fail. Even if the national majority wanted to reduce gun ownership or gun crime, it's going to be hard to do as gun ownership has been so widespread for so long
