These was why nigerians freely volunteered to go to civil wars in different african countries to bring about peace. Some of the nigerian soldiers payed the ultimate price with their lifes. Mothers/wives were made widows, children were made offense, because of the love of Nigeria for other African counties. I grew up in that era. We students contributed money from cutting our meals to support african countries in crises and even the civil servants. Equivalent of trillions of dollar was spent. Many were sponsored to USA and European countries by Nigerian government. So many africans in diaspora some of them do not know how their parents migrared to western countries when their countries were in crisis

I remembered when I was in China, an old man walked up to me and asked me directly for food. Their people said I shouldn't give anything to him. Seriously my heart couldn't hold back my tears 😭. I told them I can't walk away without helping him. I gave him money, his Chinese brothers and sisters I was with became to angry with me.
