I am a 50+ woman who used to love playing with makeup in my 20’s, but frankly had stopped wearing much besides concealer when not getting ready for something special. I’m over 50 now. The Chanel reds that I have & stopped wearing, I now wear by first applying a lip balm, let it absorb & then blot any excess off. I then apply the red from the bullet or with a brush. It’s a bit more sheer & easier to wear. Thanks Andrea, because it’s you that made me revisit my reds!!

When I was 22 I got a red lipstick as a gift from an older friend. She observed that I only used nude or beige lipstick. Since that first red (a very bright pure red), this color never left my vanity. I use red almost everyday for work. Pure red is my vibe, but I truly can pull off any red because I feel confident with bright lips.

Thank you so much for this! I have pale olive (i.e. neutral leaning slightly warm) and have been very confused about why I prefer different tones of red at different times of year. Summer or warmer months, I love warm reds-orangey reds; but when the weather cools (and my skin lightens, maybe?) they don't work so well anymore, and I lean to more neutral or vampy or at the warmest - brick tones. This was super-helpful!

Oh, I adore Motanescu!!! I have two kitties, a white european and a Russian Blue and anybody who likes cats, I like. Now, speaking of red lipsticks, my favorites are Tijuana Studded Lipstick from Kat von D (a perfect neutral red, without any orange or blue on it), Uncensored of Fenty's Stunna lip paint (another Red perfect for literally everybody) and Kat von D's Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Nosferatu (this one is darker, but I feel it very flattering in me, because I use a NW15 in Mac, so I have a very fair skin with neutral undertone and green-gray eyes, and this color makes them brighter). Also LASplash Wickedly Divine in Bloodlust or Vampire's Fang and Nabla's Liquid Lipstick in Lysergic Red (this is metallic and soooooo pretty and flattering). In low cost, I would say that Maybelline's Superstay Matte Ink in Dancer or Founder, Bourjois Rouge Velvet Edition in It's redding men!, or Revolution Pro New Neutral Satin Matte Lipstick in Stiletto or Vamped are also fantastic. All of them are perfect, and the best thing about a red lipstick for me is that only with a clean good skin, good eyebrows and a little of mascara and a red lipstick, you will be perfect and sophisticated to go anywhere... It's my perfect makeup when I have little time but I want to be spectacular...

May sound outrageous but isnt...try a red/burgundy blush. Mac dessert rose blush looks fabulous on me, with red lips. I'm NC 30.

It depends on your skin tone; if you want red during the day I love it with just bronzer or brontour. But I also have Brilliant Nude by Hourglass and the LE Tweed Beige by Chanel that look amazing with red in my fair skin. I think if you want to keep your makeup minimal for day/ work with red lip and you have darker skin then you can handle more color, and Nars makes a red that mua’s love, Dior just came out with a red, and Mac makes a well known one

What shadow colors would we wear? Warm neutral with the warm red, and cool neutral with cool red? Would we skip blush and bronzer? And skip obvious eye liner?

The eyeliner would give it a more vintage look. Everything else you mentioned is relative. Yes it is correct and safe to pair warm eyeshadows with warm red but it doesn’t mean it’s the only way. Same goes with glush and bronzer. I’ve done looks where I’ve skipped the blush and other where I’ve skipped the bronzer but in this video I have both blush and bronzer :) Go with your guts! Sometimes you know better than anybody else!

I love red lipstick, but it has to be the exact right red for my skin colour, so this video in principle is extremely useful. However, the drawback in it was for me, each time I saw a red I was looking for, I missed its name and who makes it. The presenter does not place enough emphasis on these vital pieces of information; also, sometimes she is looking down when she gives these details, or her hand is in front of her mouth. I was very frustrated by missing the name and make each time I saw a perfect red, then I discovered the written list which followed the video which did help. Thank you.
