I'm using Key-n-Stroke, which is free. I customized the graphics a bit though.

the rear fender/quarter panel area of Mercedes AMG one is so random that made me question if it's even possible to make with alias and single span surfaces. what I mean is that they are very organic and I couldn't tell where the curves would have to be placed. it's not only that, there is also McLaren 720s GT3 and formula 1 cars. I think they are made using horrible Catia v5 surfacing tools. I would love to hear your thoughts on that.

Yes it should be possible. Whether it's Catia or Alias, they're all Nurbs (or bezier) based. The underlying concept and the theory of building surface is all the same. Now, that said however, I don't know if Mercedes-Benz or McLaren, etc. uses Alias or Catia.
