I have loved Dan since the hospital scene where he tries to convince Chloe to drop Malcolm's case so the grieving family doesn't suffer any additional pain. He was a beautifully complex character. This was Dan at his core: He does not want people to get hurt. He's infinitely fallible, but that just makes him infinitely relatable. I have a theory about what will happen with him and it has everything to do with his core value of protecting others from pain and his ability to convince others to see the humanity in everyone.

I believe he will have another role to play among celestials and demons. For the longest time, I figured at the end of the series they would turn Chloe into a Kwan Yin type of figure. She is a bodhisattva from Chinese mythology. She gives up Nirvana to soothe the souls of the damned in the underworld and help them achieve redemption. Now I believe they're going to have Dan end up in that role. ESPECIALLY after hearing what Lee Garner said to Lucifer in the Silver City. I think Dan is going to help the souls in Hell deal with their guilt.
