Reaction to Alice Cooper's big hit Schools out!
The American rock star must have been every school kid's favourite uncle when this came out in 1972.

The purported reason for their sound was exactly to bother parents. For more solid rock from Alice give a listen to Under My Wheels or Be My Lover. Carry On!!

Alice is a great lyricist. He always plays with words and sometimes you have to listen closely. Btw. he owns the original sword which Errol Flynn used in his movies. He said that he even used it in some of his shows.

Great Reaction Harri. I didn’t become a Alice Cooper fan until 1986 I was 16 years old. I do love this song for nostalgic reasons. The first time I saw Alice Cooper was in 1986 I’ve seen him live 7 times. My favorite song of his is( teenage lament 74) I also love(be my lover). I hope you do more Alice Cooper. Thanks Harri loved it.😀👍❤️✌️🌼

This song came out right after I graduated from high school, so it had a special significance for me and my classmates. Alice Cooper was quite a phenomenon back then. Great reaction.

Alice was great!! Some true Alice fans can correct me but my poor memory seems to recall that Alice did everything from his name to his appearance to his music to his shows to be everything parents would be against, knowing that the kids would be all for it! Cheers, Harri!!

Of course, Alice Cooper, song, “Schools Out”. Became a anthem for every school at the end of the year. Alice Cooper 1975, “Welcome to my Nightmare”.album is a classic,. Graduated high school in 1976, i’m 63 now and still a Alice Cooper fan.

I was 13 when this song came out. It was everywhere on the radio. Of course, this was the greatest song ever and I really liked this band. I was not a fan of any later iterations of the Alice Cooper act. The original band (in this video) was the best. Peace.

Love Alice Cooper! Saw the original Alice Cooper group live back in 1973..Their Billion Dollar Babies tour. Phenomenal Alice in his prime! Musically and visually the entire concert was AMAZING! Like a dream! School's Out reached #7 in the USA and was a #1 record here in Canada. The album of the same name also went to #1 here. 😎🎼🎶🎵🇨🇦🇨🇦

Played at our end of school party. Just fun 70’s music. I went out and brought Billion Dollar babes with my paper round money. That was a growing up eye opener for a young lad.

At 18 in 1972, it was the year I finished full time education. It was very appropriate. Loved the rocking feel of the song as well as the rebelliousness of the track. Stuffed shirts, and moral campaigners from the older generation were horrified. Mary Whitehouse tried to get it banned, so the band sent her a bunch of flowers and the song hit number one. Brings back many happy memories of my last school year, which was great fun. The band liked to be outrageous, but they did it with a wink.

Alice Cooper was sort of a shock performance artist. It was his musical persona. He wanted to be scary/creepy. In real life, he is a very average, normal guy who loves to play golf LOL. He also appeared in a great horror movie called "Prince of Darkness" and did a really wild cover of "Here comes the sun" in movie Sgt. Peppers Lonely hearts club band (of course he was a bad guy in the movie). He often performed with a mental restraint jacket. One of a kind. My brother loved him, my parents hated him. Billion dollar babies. Is a great song by him.

Alice & Ozzy used to try to out do each other on the most outlandish & creepy things to do on stage. In reality, Alice is a devout Mormon. This was huge hit! I always loved it too. Even working at schools, the last day before summer break, I'd blast this song on the way home.

This song became an anthem in the 70's, and on the last week of school, the radio DJ's would be playing this sone 24/7. It was that drum beat, with the guitar, and the thunderous bass, that gave it the drive to bang you head. When parents first saw Alice with his makeup, they feared for their teenage children. Now, we teenagers who are in our 60's and 70's, let our kids listen to Alice, rather than that rap junk that they call music. What has happened to the great music? Today's bands can even sing without using auto-tune.

I was one of these kids, 14 years old. It was a time of rebellion...The message maybe has been explained better 10 years later by Pink Floyd. (we don't need no education) But it really hit!

Yes, definitely that was word play. I'm glad you noticed it. I'm not sure how many people do these days. And the refrain of "No more pencils, no more books, no more teachers dirty looks" is a traditional schoolyard ditty sang by children for many, many generations. I don't know where it originally came from. Probably some unknown school kid somewhere a 150 years ago, I imagine.

Hi Harri, when you see these videos you have to think that fifteen-year-olds then are mid-sixties now, twenty tear olds are now 70. I'm in my mid-sixties and it's as good a song now as it was when I first heard it. It was a huge hit over here.

Vincent "Alice Cooper" Fernier can say anything he wants. He's effen Alice Cooper! C'mon! This song had the exact effect he intended, piss off the adults and get the kids fired up. It worked. He's only got about another 50 hit songs in his catalog. Saw him live twice and he puts on a true Broadway style Rock and Roll show. Lots of stage props and antics, Guillotine, Boa Constrictor, Giant Spiders, and folks running all over the place. Lots of fun and oh yeah, the music was really great too.
