I found a copy of music for this song that my mother penned and sent in a letter to my father during WW2 when he was overseas. She referenced Alice Faye sang this in The Gang's All Here. So touching to be able to see Alice Faye sing this so I know a bit more about what they were feeling and thinking. What a beautiful voice.

I can just imagine all the guys in the military overseas in WW2 just loved this song. Pretty Alice Faye was one of their favorite pin-up girls because she reminded them of the girl next door. And when she breathes huskily, "No love, No Sir, Nothin' 'til my baby comes home", it was just like hearing their own sweethearts at home saying they were remaining true to their fella so far away from home. You can truly hear the longing and sadness in her voice for her love. Alice's tears at the end, and the shadowed lighting make this a truly emotional video.

It was at this precise moment in the film that I fell MADLY in love with Alice Faye's voice when I was 15 years old. TCM had just started up and one of their very first movies was "The Gang's All Here" and I wasn't sure I was going to watch the entire movie UNTIL I saw and heard this wonderful fantastic woman and singer sing this sad, yet incredibly romantic song! What a joy this moment in film history is, to be preserved on KZbin to bring joy and comfort, much like it surely did 70+ years ago to people all over the world.. thank you Carrie Behlke for posting this marvelous bit of WWII romance, it's priceless!

Pretty much the same experience, but later in life. It was 1974, the movie was 'Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore', and the song was 'You'll Never Know". I had heard the song casually before that, but Scorsese presents it with such love, its simplicity and total unaffectedness when straight to my core. Forty-five years later, still an Alice Faye fan.

Wonderful sultry contralto, very expressive song. With Benny Goodman band, a combo hard to beat, or resist....

I think No Love.. was the real hit tune from this film. I also loved A Journey To A Star . Alice had a special screen magic all her own.

Berkeley never had a singer nearly as good as Alice Faye at Warners. Well, Dick Powell, maybe.
