When "Michael" enters the scene a few moments after they tango, it adds another dimension. There are some great life lessons to pick up here. Lesson 1: Show genuine appreciation. None of Frank's constant compliments to Donna are lies or insincere. He shows true interest in what interests her. lesson 2: Keep it classy, if the situation demands it. Frank has met a girl in an upscale dining room, with a specific clientele. Frank constantly compliments her, but never get prurient or gross. She's not the kind of girl to appreciate crass talk in public. Lesson 3: Turn your weaknesses into strengths. Frank never tries to hide his blindness, he owns it. He compliments her scent and her sound, which she can be certain was true. lesson 4: Don't let the other guy get the upper hand. When she says that her date thinks the tango is "hysterical," but she likes it, Frank subtly drags him down, while maintaining the classy and upbeat tone, saying the date is hysterical. Lesson 5: build up your friends: Frank will always flatter a woman, but he knows that donna is way too young for him. He expresses admiration for her Grandmother, who is probably closer to Frank's age, and gives compliments to Charlie, who is much closer to Donna in age. This scene is a masterfully written, and masterfully acted, by all the people in the scene. Wonderful!

I’ve seen street dancers do the tango in Buenos Aires, and the artistic creativity coupled with practiced agility is simply amazing. These scene is such a gem, capturing the pathos of the whole thing with an old blind man who knows the dance teaching a young woman who doesn’t. Sheer brilliance.

If I ever see Pacino on the street, I would feel like to bow to this guy, his just unbeliavable, what a talent, thank you for your movies. Who the hell on this planet could have done Scareface better than Pacino, no one, no one.

I read somewhere that Al and Gabrielle practiced this dance before shooting this iconic scene separately. Apparently Al thought it best if it really did have an element of surprise in it for them both. To make that dance truly the first time they'd danced together. I thought that fascinating, if true. This truly is a marvelous film and Al Pacino most assuredly deserved that Oscar for it because he made me believe in the blindness of Frank Slade. ❤
