orla ndo Oh fuck you! Layne was a good dude with a bad problem. All Layne was =/= Drug addict. He was much more than that.
@rl572510 жыл бұрын
whatever nick youre missing my point, we all know how great an artist/musician he was but he shouldn't be hailed as a role model, he died due to his affliction and that should be a reminder to EVERYONE, don't fuck about with drugs, cos they will fuck u up in the end
@mikans1k10 жыл бұрын
He can very well be a role model! In fact, he's one of mine! Just because he was a drug addict, does not mean he's not a suitable role model, a hero, or a source of inspiration. That was my point, so you obviously missed my point as well. I'm willing to look past his affliction, to who he really was. He was a beautiful, kind, insightful, caring, intuitive person. The poor guy just had a huge problem he couldn't get past. If anything, he can be a role model for people to NOT do drugs. Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that drugs are good by any means. It makes me so sad to see amazing people wound up in drugs and dying. You are right- don't fuck around with drugs, because the will fuck you up in the end. Straight from Layne himself: "I wrote about drugs, and I didn’t think I was being unsafe or careless by writing about them…When I tried drugs, they were fuckin great, and they worked for me for years, and now they are turning against me -and now I’m walking through hell, and this sucks. I know I'm near death, I did crack and heroin for years. I never wanted to end my life this way. I'm not using drugs to get high like many people think. I know I made a big mistake when I started using this SHIT. It's a very difficult thing to explain. My liver is not functioning, and I'm throwing up all the time and SHITTING my pants. The pain is more than you can handle. It's the worst pain in the world. Dope sick hurts the entire body.”
@rl572510 жыл бұрын
ye I remember that interview well, but there are many that wont, youngsters that listen to his lyrics and see videos of him talking about heroin and how great it is, are you happy? i'm man, content and fully aware, money status, nothing to me.....the sad fact is when he was singing these lyrics he wasn't a good role model. I get what you are saying, I think his voice and music were great, but the lyrics when you listen to them, were deep and sad, pitiful even. so he did some good things aside from drugs but ultimately he gave his life to heroin, and by the time he ahted it it was to late, so my point is this, he had a great talent but when he was successful and current he was a walking advert for heroin, he was, he loved it and he wanted everyone to know that. he was niave of course we know that know but back in the day kids would listen to his lyrics and think yeah heroin is cool, it gets you high, it makes u create great music and gets u success in life........... layne learnt the hard way this wasn't true, godbless him, im not a hater just being realistic, we all have our opinions, I get yours but this is mine

You guys will never truly know him, unfortunately. How kind, soft spoken, and shy he was outside of his fame. I grew up around him around 1996-2002. Thanks to my asshole, father. I got to meet the guy who was in my life in the beginning, and although it was only 6 short years, he’s affected me more than anybody else. Yes, he watched over me a few times.. I had to see shit that I didn’t comprehend during that time. But I remember playing N64 on his huge flatscreen projector. Messing with drum beats in his minuscule studio. He had an option where if you hit a key, you’d hear an “Ow!, Oof”, or punch sound effect. Like you were beating the high hell out of someone. Layne and I were fond of the game Perfect Dark. We loved it for the same reasons too. Storyline, gameplay, and the music as well. I miss him everyday, and I’m fighting back tears thinking about it.

@knutelindstrom37169 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's rare that bands have albums that are ALL good songs. I wonder what happened? It's like every band has at least 1 or 2 good songs, some more, but the rest is just filler or something. I've met guys that can write 2-3 songs a day, but can never remember them unless their notebook is in front of them & I always figured it was bcuz it wasn't personal. One guy was one of those "I wanna be a star, no matter what" type of guys, & was even trying to steal my songs, which is ridiculous bcuz I call my music trash rock. Alice In Chains wrote music that was personal & meaningful to them, but ppl could relate to it. Nowadays groups write music that they think others will like, or will sell, but it's usually the personal songs, the real songs, that are their good ones & the filler is just there to pad out their album. Damn, I miss the good music! This materialistic pop fluff can't last, something's got to give & a bunch of great bands will come out of it, but I hope it happens soon! There's a LOT of ppl who are sick of the music that's available in the mainstream, but can't spend a lot of time trying to find the underground music they'd like bcuz there's a lot of digging involved. RocknRoll!

I just wanted to mention that Ibogaine ( a natural psychotropic founs in the Iboga tree in Africa) has proved succesfull in treating heroin addiction but is still illegal in north america. Why are heroin addicts being given methodone (more addictive than heroin), while people hav eto fly out to clinics in Mexico to seek treatment? Keep on rockin, love you Layne

There are so many other things that people could have focused on and asked Layne about instead of heroin. It's sad that Layne = heroin. Pearl Jam...ugh. Hate Eddie's voice. Soundgarden...eh, they're OK. Definitely dug Nirvana. But man oh man, I LOVED Alice in Chains. The music, the lyrics, the other-worldly harmonies(!!!), and mostly Layne's vocals, all combined into rock perfection, IMO. I don't know what it is about Layne's voice, but it just had that certain quality that made everything he sang extraordinary.
@peterborak32568 жыл бұрын
Eddie Vedder has a fantastic voice. Wtf are you on about? But to each his own... I do prefer Alice in Chains too. Layne's voice was so unique and just amazing. Chris Cornell from Soundgarden was great too, but most of their songs are just boring. And I do think that Nirvana are good but super overrated now, especially by the new flood of mainstream teens that just discovered them, and acting as if they are the only grunge band in existence. Kurt's voice was relatively mediocre to the likes of Layne, Chris or Eddie
@whereswesker6 жыл бұрын
Jekku That's the most childish bs I've ever read. just because you love one band more than the other doesn't makes them bad. Eddie's voice is one of the greatest and strongest voices in music history. In fact Nirvana is the last in the big 4 Musical wise, Pearl Jam, Alice in chains, Soundgarden were way greater. people were just too obsessed with kurt cobain that their minds makes them believe that they're the best. Pearl Jam album ten came out before nevermind , Alice in chains facelift too, And also Soundgarden. and this is from a big big fan of Nirvana and Kurt Cobain. love their music so fucking much but I go with honesty here they weren't better than SG, PJ, AIC period. And I wish if you put some respect for these band's .

Agreed except for possibly Nirvana, I dont care for Kurt. Eddie though, I cant stand that weird yodel of his. Layne was by far the best and AIC the best of that time imo.

Damn, that got his attention. When she said 'heroin' it looked like he got hit with a tazzer. I hate nosey interviewers.

Weird how the two remaining band members and the two who have died are paired together for the interview. Illuminati(sarcasm).

It's not the only time. It seemed like Layne n Mike were always paired up. I wish I knew more about their relationship. I think they were like best friends and when Mike was kicked out of the band, they both started to sputter out. By the way, does anyone know why Mike Starr was kicked out of AIC? I don't remember there ever being an explanation. 15 years later I see him on Dr. Drew's celebrity spin dry or whatever that show was. And now Chris Cornell and Kim, another singer & bassist friendship... I can't believe they're all dead! ¿WTF? .. .. .. .. ¡FTW!

@@christopherdiedrich40 I think it's because they were too bad influences on each other... Layne was already on h, and Mike was too sympathetic with it... they couldn't have two band members on that spiral... the excuse given was that MS couldn't handle touring but the truth, I think was this...

@@christopherdiedrich40 He sold backstage passes to buy drugs when they played Rio. Jerry got pissed off and kicked him out of the band.

It was also said he liked girls who weren't quite old enough to vote and it was drawing too much attention. Jerry didn't want that kind of publicity. Plus the selling passes deal.

Lol. It's ok, I noticed that too. But there are interviews I've seen where Jerry keeps talking over Sean. ;-) They're good.

Jerry is the one who mostly talks now, it seems. And quite a few interviews from back then. From what I have seen out of the interviews I have watched, no one except for Jerry is really interested in being interviewed. Lots of sarcasm and I don't give a fuck attitude(s). Just like this one with Layne and Mike. Layne looks uncomfortable to begin with, so his answers are sarcastic and humorous. Then, the stupid lady asks about heroin. There are better things to talk about. Too bad the last half of the interview was her asking him about that shit.

I have such a different perspective watching these old tour and interview clips, after listening to and reading Mark Lanegan’s Memoir, “Sing Backwards and Weep”. Knowing some of the details of these shows and tours, makes me feel even more connected to that music scene and that time period. I already had a sense of pride about the music and the bands, being “my music”, that wasn’t/isn’t to my connected to my parents generation, but having Lanegan’s story and detailed experiences gives more of a sense of gratitude, that maybe I took for granted before. I came of age in early 1990s, and by the end of the decade, I was an adult getting ready to graduate from college. I’ve left behind and/or forgotten a lot of details from that time, but a lot of those forgotten experiences weren’t connected or tied to the music, so I guess you could say the forgotten wasn’t worth remembering. 😂 But if the music was connected, I could tell stories down to the smallest, most seemingly insignificant fiber of detail. Crazy how the brain works. Anyway, thanks for sharing the video!!
