Just messing around, holding back the power. A whisper here a couple humms there, then bang he opens up and it's a fucking storm. I love his voice, even at low levels. However I've always maintained that you can't even really hear his voice until his ribcage starts rattling. Just fucking brutal. The best vocalist who ever lived and it's not even close. Yeah there's Chris Cornell, Steve Perry, Geoff Tate, Christina Aguilera and a few others but seriously, it's a wrap.

Mesmerising vocal, and his control is amazing. He's the greatest rock singer of all time in my opinion, not just on record but live. This is where he has the edge over Chris Cornell, but in truth I think they're joint greatest - Chris has the edge in range and power while Layne has the edge in soul and depth.

@@motorologist On par maybe. Only in the high notes. Layne has that uniqueness and talent that really not that many people have. He just has it. I am not trying to undermine Chris, I love em' both and I listen to them a lot everyday.
