I think you guys are missing the point of the Mad Hatter. They weren’t in love with each other and they didn’t have romantic feelings. The different characters were symbolic of People Alice actually knew back home. For example, the twins were represented by Tweedleded and Tweedledumb, and the hare represented Alice’s aunt. It’s clear that the hatter was symbolic of Alice’s father. He’s very creative and considered outlandish, just like her father was. Alice related to her father more than anyone else in the world. So, it makes since that she would heavily relate with the Hatter.

They say Hatter and Alice had a brother/sister relationship but they definitely had some more romantic tension than that, at least I felt so. I heard there was supposed to be a kiss scene but it was ditched because of the age difference of Johnny and Mia...still sucks though!

For all those shipping... Hatter was at the VERY least 20 years old when Alice came for tea when she was 8. The second movie proved that Hatter ages normally unlike the other characters.

Yes. But when he was 20 he was frozen in time. Time only just started up again in this movie. He's still 20 and Alice is now 18-19. I don't think he loved her yet when she was 8. That's just weird. It was more of a friendship. But it grew as Alice got older and the second time she came they were almost the same age. In the original script they were supposed to have something between them, even if the Hatter was too crazy and innocent to have it be typical love. They were supposed to kiss too.

I kind of want them to be together and I don't want them to be at the same time...after watching the second movie I had mixed feelings and I suppose it ultimately comes down to this: Alice truly belongs in her world and romance would honestly be best found there for her. At the same time, Hater isn't entirely right in the head, and tbh I don't entirely think his personality would exactly allow for that type of love. The second movie really touches on Hater's mental state and he just--I don't know, he just seems too...vulnerable for a romance with Alice. With anyone, really. But that's not saying that they can't have a deep, intimate relationship that could, honestly, be better than any romance could promise. That's my take. Thoughts?

She can't stay in her wonderland forever and must find the part in herself that will allow her to grow up and find her place in the real world. I always thought that this part was both Tarrant not wanting to lose her again and Alice still not quite ready to completely give up her childhood. Kind of like the ending to Labyrinth. The "Should you ever need us..." scene. Even though she would forget her adventures and her Underland friends, there would still be times when she would almost remember something. Kind of like a half remembered memory you might have of your own childhood. Like you know there was something, you can almost remember it, but you can't for the life of you figure out what it was. I know the characters were supposed to represent people Alice knew in real life. But I always used to wonder if those people actually reminded Alice of the friends she used to have in Underland as a child. She just didn't know why they somehow seemed familiar. I've seen people before myself that seem like I knew them once but I don't remember ever meeting them before. Maybe I'd dreamed of someone long ago who just reminded me of them and I can't remember. I'm sure it's possible.

Really? I thought it was supposed to be Absoleum. Alice's father wasn't crazy and didn't act the same way the Hatter does. She always went to her father for advice because he was the only one who believed her. She goes to Absoleum for advice too and he was the one who got her to realize that it wasn't a dream but a memory and helped her find the real Alice. Kind of like something her father might have done. Also Absoleum was ready for change, and a big change like turning into a butterfly. Her father wanted to do big things too. The Hatter? Not so much.
