Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, read by Janette Miller, Part 2.
For my granddaughter Alice and for all those who want to understand the English!
"The Mad Tea Party" to end.
This is the full version and not abridged.
This book can be appreciated on many levels. It appears to be a children's story but deep down it is much more than that. If you look deeper it is the very essence of what makes the English tick. If you wish to understand the English as a race a knowledge of "Alice in Wonderland" goes a long way.
It is a profound sense of the ridiculous combined with understatement and irony. My favourite example is the Caucus Race to get dry which is a perfect study of how politicians work even today. Everyone chasing each other, running around in circles getting nowhere until someone or something calls a halt and then everyone stops and gets on with life just like Brexit. One moment it was there and the next gone.
So enjoy. Choose your favourite bit if you like but I found on re-reading that there were lots of bits I had forgotten as Walt Disney missed them out like the big Puppy dog and the pigeon! I like the Rabbit's House episode as I enjoyed and emphasised with Bill the Lizard who always has to do the jobs no one else wants to do. Story of my life! but I have enjoyed reading Alice for you
The music is mostly Gilbert & Sullivan, with a touch of Chopin and is taken from the children's ballet series "Dance Tales Story Ballets".
