I lived in Alice Springs for a year back in the 80s. It looks like it hasn’t changed a lot since then. Summers are hot, we didn’t have AC but had water coolers. There were a lot of those little kangaroos around and we often saw camels walking by on a sort of trail ride. Those birds were always around and loud. They would fly into our large front window and die. Todd st was open for cars then. It was definitely a good experience and I would love to go back.

That is amazing that you got to be there back in the 80s! We were there in Spring and it was unbearably hot, I can only imagine what summer is like! Thanks for watching and your comment! I really hope you get to make it back out there soon. There's nowhere quite like it!

That painting you got was pretty incredible! I would hang that in my house! It is always a really cool experience to get it straight from the artist themselves and to be able to talk to them and hear their stories and hear about their inspirations!

I don't have a house yet, but that is the plan!! :D Exactly... we didn't get to chat much, the person we bought it from was a VERY pushy salesperson, but we wanted to directly support the artist!

@@IfWeGoTo you are lying or you didn't spend enough time in the main street at the right time, I'm sure you went there early in the morning and everybody would have been sleeping off the grog from the the night before . Now the town has just been declared a no go zone for tourists due to the extreme violence happening there at the moment and people are being advised only to stop in the town for petrol and then get the hell out there. The place has been overrun by violent indigenous people and is not safe at all

Spent a month there… didn’t see anything violent at all. Maybe there is some crime or even a rise in it, but that’s expected in a lot of cities… like I’ve personally seen and experienced far far worse in my home country. And besides… if it was “just” declared a no-go zone and this was filmed nearly two years ago…. Why would you expect us to mention it? Like what? Lol

@@IfWeGoTo it was always been extremely violent in that town I have been there I have seen it so I know that you are lying when you say that you didn't see anything that that is just not something that Australians will believe . What I'm saying is its now got to the point where tourists are no longer allowed to go there, now that hasn't suddenly happened in the last 2 years that's been building up for many many years you are lying cos that's what blonde women think they can get away with doing to get attention. You need to understand Australians are not stupid like the Americans we won't just put up with a lie and go she must know what she's doing because she's got a social media account we ask questions because we are educated unlike you people . Sorry it was disappointing for you! In hindsight we’d definitely include more, but it was also one of our very first videos… so I’m not really surprised to hear that what I think was our fourth video ever or something sucked. Hahaha. I’d like to think they’ve improved with more experience… but reality is we’re just amateurs. As most people on KZbin are.. take it easy on us. 🥲 The animal thing.. man we tried. We’re both biologists and usually have some success with it where we visit. Not there… lol. maybe it was the time of year? Or the time of day? We had to stay on California hours which meant we had to be asleep 4pm-midnight daily… which limited our evening experiences as well as side trips. 😔 If you have any tips for when we head back, we’re all ears.. Cause we drove out in the early morning hours to look on the roads for reptiles, visited a bunch of gorges and water holes, the ilparpa clay pans at day break after a storm, drove all of the way out to Uluru and back, visited multiple closer national parks, usually at day break… went hiking way more than normal people would in 40+ degree weather. We saw some camels on the way to the airport when we were leaving. Lol. Hopefully next time we’ll be able to create something better! Should have a few more years experience under our belts by then! Lol.

You shouldn’t film Aboriginal people, you should take that bit out.
@IfWeGoTo

Definitely appreciate you looking out for people! We did ask if the camera was ok when we purchased her art moments later… she did say it was ok. I think this courtesy is in place to avoid cultural misrepresentation or exploitation of the Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander people. And of course certain cultural activities and heritage sites shouldn’t be recorded (Notice we didn’t include things like the rock art at Emily Gap) I don’t believe this is exploitation or misrepresentation though. I think if anything that it supports them because we explain how to find & buy art from the actual artists rather than the art shops which can take huge cuts from them. If there’s a reason that this should be removed that I’m missing though… let me know. We don’t mean any disrespect.

@@IfWeGoTo Just be aware that while it's fine to film them with their permission, you should always include a caption at the start of the video warning viewers that your footage includes an Indigenous Australian who may have no longer be alive. It's a bit confusing, but you should do some research into it as it's important to their combined cultures that no Indigenous person is witnessed in recorded or photographed form who may have passed.

Thank you for informing me in a helpful and constructive way. This really helps us understand why it’s an issue. Unfortunately we can’t add the warning after posting it, but do you think we should edit that section showing her out?? We definitely don’t want to be disrespectful.

@@IfWeGoTo I think it's fine and understandable. You couldn't have known. Leave it as it is unless you're asked to change it by an Indigenous viewer. But maybe in the future, if you visit our great country again, you could include the warning for those who might be offended. Sorry about the shock and any confusion. Just a rule in Australian media and integrity that typically isn't made known to foreigners.

Right!! It’s really incredible that people developed there! Tbh, from posting this and the comments I have received on this video (that I have deleted because they were horrible), I think some people are racist and prejudiced towards aboriginal Australians… and because a large population of them live in Alice Springs, people have just dragged it through the mud. We stayed an entire month and didn’t have a single moment where we felt unsafe. That’s not to say you shouldn’t be cautious, like with anywhere, but I do think people are a bit off when they say it’s extremely dangerous. We didn’t stay out late at night or go to bars or anything, but for nature and hiking we hardly even ran into other people. But we thought it was a beautiful area for its nature… if you want to see it, go!
