Hello! I’m Jeff with the Road March Project. I visited Redwoods National and State Park back in April. Except I drove south coming from Oregon and I stayed in Crescent City. When I was driving at one point the forest was so thick I couldn’t get a signal on the satellite radio. Also I was blown away by the coastline. I had the opportunity to capture some amazing photos and videos of the sun setting. Anyway, this is a very informative video. Good job 👍🏾

The nice thing about hikes like these in “bad” weather is you’re so much more likely to get the place to yourself. Running into someone occasionally is totally fine. But when it gets to amusement park status… no thanks. Even though there is a beauty in the fog and rain, it does look like it would be amazing on a clear day. Thank you for the video, Alice.

Wow Alice, your videos are getting better and better! I have a new 4k monitor too so they're looking great too. Plus, you're getting poetic, as in 13:08 : My favorite parts of this area are these coastal headlands where the forest meets the sea, where the deep fog rolls in and covers everything, and where you have the green ferns meeting the ocean.

This video really hit a soft spot. Having lived in the Pacific Northwest, Redwood always been an interesting site. Those giant red cedars are majestic and the coastline represents the weather going on and out of season I would say. I love your hat, please wear that one. Camping on the beach can be wet with the tides even though the weather is cooperating, there is that moisture floating that gets through your gear. Camping inland might help and it is best for a bonfire to help keep things dry. Thanks for sharing Alice, that was great footage 🇨🇦⛺️🥾🌹😎

Thank you. I enjoy your videos. I have not been to that redwoods area. However, I went to another redwoods park near Santa Cruz once, and they were awesome. Interestingly, there are planted redwoods groves in Hawaii (on Maui) and in New Zealand (near Rotorua) that are nearly 100 years old, that you can visit too.
@AliceFordAdventures2 жыл бұрын
Wow on Maui really? I’m surprised they can survive where it’s so warm year round. The redwood groves near Santa Cruz are marvelous as well
@robertdean15792 жыл бұрын
@@AliceFordAdventures I believe the grove is on the giant Haleakala shield volcano, which rises to over 10,000 feet. So it has a variety of ecosystems between sea level and ~10,000 feet. I believe the redwood grove is at an elevation of about 6000 feet in the Polipoli Spring State Recreation Area.

There's an alternative to the Tall Trees Trail, but it's an 8.5 mile hike on the trail along Redwood creek each way (and it's worth it). I think (it's been a long time) you take the same road out of Orick as you do for the Tall Trees Trail, but you're on it for less than a mile. It's a lot longer, but since it's along the creek, it's much less steep.
@AliceFordAdventures7 ай бұрын
Oh yeah, I just looked that up on the map and I assume you don’t need a permit for that one. It also says you can camp along the creek in that area what I’m sure would be awesome but full of slugs.
@thethegreenmachine7 ай бұрын
@@AliceFordAdventures We didn't need a permit, but it was a long time ago. I think you're right since it's such a long walk. Not many people would line up for that hike. Didn't need one for Fern Canyon back then, either. I don't think the area's any more sluggy than average for in the redwoods. There were a lot of newts crossing the trail, though -- the ones with the red bellies. I have an old hiking guide book that says it's one of the few places where you're supposed to camp by the water instead of away from it. I wonder if that's changed, too. Oh, another thing that book says is that the bridges (the trail crosses the creek at least twice that I remember) aren't there during the winter.
