Always entertaining! This does look lovely, and although I CAN afford $60 for a sunscreen, I'm just not. Not when there are perfectly good choices from Beauty of Joseon, Benton, DRMTLGY, OMI, Purito, etc. for a third or less of the price. And, truth be told, if I did buy it, I'd suffer from the same "I won't put as much" downfall. That's your cue that you don't feel good about what you spent.

That looks lovely. I probably won't pick it up but I just ordered a new bottle of sunscreen. Honestly it's my favorite one and it's $38 which is still on the pricey side for sunscreen but it goes on so light, blends so fast, has a beautiful finish, and wears great under makeup. Tula mineral magic. It is my HG sunscreen. There is a slight tint to it but it doesn't really look like wearing a tinted sunscreen, it just gives a radiant healthy glow every time I wear it.

I love this sunscreen. I bought it the first day it was released too and I would spend $100+ on a mineral sunscreen that does not give me a reaction. I have extremely sensitive skin... and this one applied like a dream and it didn't give me any reaction. The only thing I wish is they would come out with a jumbo size. I actually use the recommended amount, quarter of a teaspoon so I go thru sunscreen quickly. 1.7 oz sunscreen bottles usually last me like a month lol.

I feel like Tatcha has Goddess tier formulations. It's the only luxury skincare I've ever used and the only luxury brand I ever wish to use honestly. I feel that's why their stuff is so expensive. In 2015, when I first used their UNFORTUNATELY DISCONTINUED 😡 formation of the Triple Soothing Recovery Cream in that 1.7oz jar all over my body with flaring eczema, it smoothed out my skin like magic. I was hooked. I wish I had money to support buying tatcha's small full size products for all over my body but I'd probably spend $5k a month alone 😭

Ok ok ok! Fine!! I’ll get current and aim for dolphin skin! 😆 It really does bother me that the shiny look was dubbed “dewy” - which is what happens on fresh green blades of grass and pretty delicate flowers overnight, NOT what happens to my pore-y skin after a long day. 🙅🏻‍♀️ If I hadn’t just received the Beauty of Joseon sunscreen from StyleVana in the mail today (and been enjoying the DRMTLGY tinted SPF), this would *really* tempt me. Later in the year for sure. I remember when Tatcha first came out, I tried several things but the high fragrance on some items was too much for my nose. They have such beautiful textures and packaging though. They were certainly in a league of their own early on, but now I can get those qualities in more affordable Korean items (although the Tatcha components do feel higher quality). ☮️💟🤗
@AliceintheRabbitHole
@AliceintheRabbitHole 2 жыл бұрын
If it helps, I originally pulled out the DRMTLGY tinted to say that’s what this reminds me the most of. But then in side by side swatches, it looked completely different (and I didn’t want to seem totally out there in my logic LOL!) So not a dupe, but another one of those “alternatives” - an “if you like this, you’ll like that” Ohhh I have a question about oily skin! Is it uncomfortable? Dry skin feels uncomfortable for sure, but for me - there’s no level of “too much oil” applied to my skin. It just feels relieving!
@das_ein
@das_ein 2 жыл бұрын
@@AliceintheRabbitHole Hm, no, oily skin doesn’t feel physically uncomfortable. The only sensation I can recall is feeling like the skin above my upper lip or on my chin (🤣) is hot and suffocating if I apply oil there on purpose/accident. The rest of my face can’t tell it’s oily. So that’s good. It’s definitely more of a psychological uncomfortable feeling. I associate the oiliness with dirt and sweat (because it tends to happen a few hours after cleansing) and feeling like I need to get that layer off or else I’ll get pimples! So it really is a cultural construct for me personally. But even when I see it on others, I have a moment of ‘ick’. There’s a waiter at my local diner who I used to think was being overworked because his skin is the shiniest I’ve ever seen. I thought, Oh poor guy, he doesn’t even get a break to wipe the sweat and oil off his face. Nope, I don’t think that’s it.😅 😂 I certainly appreciate not having the tightness of dry skin!

I feel like sunscreen is the one place in my skincare routine I'm really willing to splurge on. I want the least obtrusive experience so I don't get lazy and go "ugh I don't want to put on sunscreen, I'm not going outside anyway." If you break it down, that's probably 3 months at least of daily use, so $20 per month doesn't actually feel that bad if it checks all your boxes

If this does work well on all skin tones, then ima need companies to follow their lead at different price points (just because I know not everyone can afford a $60 sunscreen). There are so many tinted mineral sunscreens that dont work for me because...universal shade?! 😩. Thats not a thing. Or the shade might look ok during the first application then I start looking like Casper's next door neighbor after the second one. So if the pinkness is cancelling it out and that works for alot of skin tones then I need this to happen more often lol. Also, it looks like the tintedness (idk if that's even a word lol) of the sunscreen doesnt get all over your clothes but sits perfectly on the skin. I hate when tinted sunscreen transfer. @AliceintheRabbitHole
@AliceintheRabbitHole 2 жыл бұрын
Great question! It certainly does seem confusing, but yes: it is possible for one product to have, say, ZnO at 14% and claim SPF 30…and then another to say ZnO at 20% with an SPF 30. 👀😧 The reason for this is because the SPF is not based SOLELY on the chemical filters, but rather the final product. Think of it like: the SPF is the measure of sun protection in Product X. The % is the measure of strictly each ingredient, separate from binders, emulsifiers, etc. Hopefully that helps explain it?

I can't believe u bought a 60$ sunscreen either that's crazy. I heard the Jackson Lane rain or shine sunscreen was amazing I read the ingredients and it sounded good and they have a frangerance free version too it's a guys brand supposedly but women love it, I kinda want to try it the cost is half the amount of the tula sunscreen..lol but idk about the filters I forgot what they are.

Oh interesting, I haven’t heard of that one! But I definitely am not opposed to using “mens” skincare. You know it’s often more gentle, to accommodate for men shaving their faces? That’s just music to my (sensitive skin) ears 😆

It has to do with formulation. It’s for sure possible (I’ve even seen lower percentages); but at the same time, I will always listen to the experience of others. I would hope that we as a community learned to do this after the Purito scandal!

I don't have an issue spending some money on skin care for high quality ingredients, but charging this much for sunscreen rubs me the wrong way. I will do my own quiet protest and not buy it.

I had my own internal dilemma around that myself (as I think sunscreen should be considered healthcare, which should be…free) But I ultimately can’t deny it’s very well done. Just wish it wasn’t also out of the question as an option for many 😞

I am working through a collection of sunscreens, so am in a no purchase mode, but I have no interest in spending $60 for sunscreen. I personally could never afford to spend 60.00 on sunscreen that’s insane to me especially when I’ve heard that money is an issue! BUT ………… to those who are fortunate enough to never worry about what they spend great good go for it , BUT ……… I bet if we all looked we could find a very comparable product at a quarter of the price , I’m that person who once had a GREAT job paid GREAT but was heavy work in Health Care caring for those in Long Term Care it’s hard on our bodies all the work and it pulled a Humpty Dumpty on my body . I now live on Disability and could NEVER afford what I used to and I suffer from serious fomo now I’m missing on all these amazing beautiful products and I get so upset because I can’t buy it , oh I could then let those others in my home suffer the consequences and I can’t do that but man I want these beautiful products that look amazing and do amazing things. It’s my hope by Summer in my area right now I have literal 10 ft snowbanks and -35 Celsius temperatures so hopefully by mid Summer there will be a comparable product out, we can easily hit those extremely hot hot days where it’s 42 above Celsius which is well over 100 degrees F but man 60 bucks for just over an ounce that wouldn’t last more than two weeks with having to reapply numerous times in a day . Just like Super Goop it’s an extremely expensive product that we can now get the exact same thing at a much cheaper price I’m going to hope really really hard that this gets duped , and yes I understand that ppl hate when products get duped but that’s just the how it is with honesty everything. If you can afford to get these really beautiful luxury products I’m honestly happy for you that you never have to experience what it’s like to try and have a Family on a limited budget and work your A off for it and have so little to show for it , just remember to be great full for the way you live and not pass judgment on others . Wow guys I’m really sorry this took a turn okay I going to cross my fingers and hope that something extremely close to this at a quarter of the price comes out cause I can’t but really really want this , I hope I didn’t offend anyone if I did I apologize it wasn’t my intention.

I’m on the quest for dupes already haha! I feel like it might be a bit of a wait - the game of “expensive brand figures out new way to formulate - passes to mid range - passes to drugstore”. But it does make me excited overall for the future of mineral sunscreens. They used to be SO hard to use; this means great progress!

@Melanie Gorniak I bought it and it’s not all that. it’s nice enough but I actually like the Dr. Dennis Gross Lightweight Wrinkle Defense better. That one isn’t cheap but is less expensive than this new Tula. Don’t feel bad, as a matter of fact I feel bad that I bought it, I really can’t sustain using it daily either Was just so hyped to try it.

How does this work on DRY skin? I find a lot on mineral sunscreens to be drying and too matte on the skin.
@AliceintheRabbitHole
@AliceintheRabbitHole 2 жыл бұрын
It’s a lot better than most! I do suspect that every last mineral sunscreen in existence will be a BIT drying (given the nature of minerals, ie mineral powders!) But it’s obvious Tatcha put a lot of effort into this sunscreen to combat that. As an alternative, you might want to try the newer filters out of the EU. I find those less drying and often more budget-friendly. The catch is you have to import those as the US hasn’t yet approved those filters. Hope this helps!
