Nice play. To my hears The Grandeur wins. In the arpeggio the difference is obvious, and the coverage from bass to treble is far better than Alicia's Keys.

I absolutely love your comparison videos. And I love that you're playing a $400 Casio digital piano, so superbly. It's all about the piano sample libraries or something like Pianoteq. Wonderful.

What I've always loved about The Grandeur is that the timbre has a high soaring voice that is reminiscent of a female soprano. It sounds human. I'm a little surprised at how much better The Grandeur sounds here. The notes all sound like they belong together. They have a certain consistency that the other piano doesn't have. And they work well together-if you listen to a right hand chord or left hand chord, the notes fit with each other better. Alicia's Keys kind of sounds like it's all over the place, and the notes don't fit together with each other well. The notes sound like they're fighting with each other, yet in The Grandeur they seem to complement each other. This is reflected all the way through this video. But there's also a place where this really sticks out: At 3:20, listen carefully to the G sharp played repeatedly with the right hand. I believe this is 'River Flows In You', apparently in the key of A. it sounds really dull and almost muted compared to the other notes. There really seems to be no consistency between notes in Alicia's Keys. Then compare that to the same passage at about 4:30 on The Grandeur. The difference is stunning.

You're totally wright, I work with the Grandeur piano 90% of time. If want somthing darker I use the pure piano. The high end in the grandeur are insane !

Thanks for posting, Jun Jung! I've been using Grandeur for about a year now, but I'm really liking the Alicia Keys after listening! Granduer's high register has such good clarity, but I love the richness of the middle register on the Alicia Keys :)

That's what I loved about Alicia's Keys. Middle notes are gorgeous, but the lows sometimes overpowers mid/high notes when playing pieces that's very dynamic.

My favorites are Alicia Keys, NOIRE and this one. But I don't know which one I prefer, they all sound really great. Do not forget that those piano VST give you the ability to get unbelievable great sounds for a lesser cost than a grand piano

First of all very nice performance and thank you so much for making this comparison video. To me it seems like the Alicia Keys is a darker tonal sound and I agree with Angelina Martinez in the comments that it also seems to almost over compile itself with processing as the pianist gets stronger creating a bit of compression or artifacts. The Granduer is a brighter piano and seems to sound more natural when played stronger. In my opinion I think if I had to choose one of them to download I would go with The Grandeur because even if I wanted a darker sound I could eq it to sound more like the Alicia's Keys. It would be a lot harder to try and make the Alicia's Keys piano sound as clear as the Grandeur. (I listened to this using a pair of Mackie HR824 through a QSC TM30)

This is not truly a fair comparison as Alicia's Keys has reverb. If you applied reverb to Grandeur it would be a big change in sound.

but to be fair, when you load them up with default settings, Alicia's Keys is actually drier than the Grandeur, so he probably increased the reverb on A.C. and slightly overcompensated...but actually they sound very very similar

Complimenti!

Jun Jung: I think I need these things for my Casio: 1. USB cable 2. PC, like Windows 3. DAW, like "REAPER" 4. VSTi, like "Keyscape" or "Grandeur" I only need "Kontakt" if my VSTi needs a host, like "Grandeur".But "Keyscape" does not need a host, I think. An audio interface is primarily for latency, right? Do you have any latency problems since you do not use an audio interface and directly plug your USB into your PC? I would like to not buy an audio interface if you are able to record MIDI with just a USB. Thank you so much for your time. ;-)

Since my Casio CDP-130 takes a USB cable and not MIDI cables and an audio interface/mixer, which increases sound quality takes MIDI cables; is there such a thing as an audio interface/mixer that uses USB instead? Or should I just not use an audio interface? Will the headphones sound like MIDI when I am recording or audio sound if this is the case? Thanks :)

If Grandeur needs a host like Kontakt to be able to use it, I was wondering if Kontakt comes with any piano VSTis already installed when purchased. And since "Keyscape" can run without a host, I was wondering if anyone had any advice whether spending the money on Kontakt and Grandeur would be better or worse than just buying Keyscape without a host.
@ETallant86

I believe it does not come with any real piano vsts. If you are going to buy kontakt I highly recommend saving up for komplete 11. It comes with the grandeur and 2 other spectacular vsts for kontakt as well as a ton of other great kontakt instruments. Plus you get quite a lot of other vsts. It's a great package deal....I started with komplete 10 and now I own komplete 11 ultimate and would never give it up. Also, grandeur is my go to piano vst, but I've never used keyscape. I know spectrasonics makes great products (I love trillian and omnisphere) and also Arturia has pianos in their v5 collection but I haven't used them yet

All, take a look to HAMMERSMITH GRAND where you will be able to choose between the 6 mics positions close, mid distance, far away in deccatree and musician position...and which mic (Neummann, Schoeps, AKG) to use AND EQ each mic! Its 30000 Samples on 21 velocity layers, string simpathetic ressonance, 52Gb for a single plugin Steinway Model D piano! And the convolution reverbs are dense come with filters included and are amazing! Comes with compressor and final EQ, stereo image, keys velocity curve control and so on...at an affordable cost! I prefer the Hammersmith Grand over the most recent one (Pro), but by contacting the SONICCOUTURE Company its possible to switch between both versions I think, just check with them first! On the older version IMHO one can do so much more...It was sampled at Mark Knopfler Studio in the UK, and sound is Absolutely amazing! I am really grateful to SONICCOUTURE for this amazing piece of Excellent Work!

@musicmakesyoustrong
@musicmakesyoustrong 7 жыл бұрын
icantfindit008 I think the Grandeur (which is sampled from a Steinway D) or Alicia's both beat Yamaha's built in samples every day of the week. Yamahas samples from the CFX in clp 685 (and other clp models) are quite flat especially when it comes to the base, they lack the real warm depth. Also they don't sound as "close" as these VST's do, The Grandeur and Alicia's sound like you're literally standing right next to them, it's amazing. If I were you I would go for a cheaper CLP model and spend the saved money on a good VST instead. That's what I've done at least. And yes you hook it up to your computer, the sound will come out from your speakers connected to the computer. Hope this helped.

When i see that video I think that Alicias Keys is a wonderful piano sound and may be even better then the Grandeur. However, I own both libraries. And for on time I turn on Alicias Keys, I use 4 times the Grandeur. The Grandeur adapt to just every music style where Alicias Keys is way to warm for that. Dont get me wrong. I love both of them but while the Grandeur is my go - to piano, Alicia is for certain pieces just better. Isn't it nice to live in our times where you can just play on the most expensive pianos in the world for the price of a better kitchen chair.

I have both- the Grandeur blows Alicia Keys away, because Alicia Keys has a virtually nothing user interface. I have learned the KZbin video comparisons are virtually worthless- you've got to have these in your hands. In this demo- the reverb is completely different for the two pianos, and makes the Key's piano sound better, where it clearly is not when you've got them at your fingers and opened up in Kontakt. I would NEVER use the Keys piano, it's relatively horrible.

I got the Grandeur, and I find it too bright in the high notes and not detailed enough (kinda muddy even in the lows). Alicia's keys is much warmer in the highs and defined in the lows in my opinion. Shame for that bright fuchsia bottle in the background...

It's ridiculous to try to judge which one is the "best"...They are all great for certain applications. It's best to own multiple VST's so that you can choose the one that sounds best for a particular project.

I don't quite like Alicia's Key because of its uniqueness, I mean like it's way too one-of-a-kind, everyone easily knows that you used Alicia's Keys in your song by listening to some specific notes, which is sorta disconcerning...

Jun Jung Hi Jun! What do you mean with "pure stock". I hear a distinct difference between The Grandeur and Alicia's but I can't point to what exactly it is. Is there a reverb on Alicia's? It just sounds so much..hmm more rich and full? I've bought the Grandeur and now I'm starting to regret it. Any help is much appriciated! 😃 Thanks for the video and have a great day!

Somewhere in the octave above middle C, Grandeur doesn't sound as realistic as Alicia's Keys. It sounds brighter, but less like a real piano. You really notice it in Summer, when the right hand comes in with the melody.

Here's the veridic after more then three years ... If the arrangement is solo piano or with a lead vocal, I would choose "The Grandeur" over Alicia's Keys... But in the majority of arrangements with more instruments, including a pop, ballad, jazz, etc song, it "mix" or "Glue" better the piano by "Alicia's Keys" even do you can use "The Grandeur" and cut the lower frequencies to avoid fighting with the bass (Especially if is a synth bass).
