No Man's Sky has had SEVENTEEN major updates since Internet Historian's video came out. Sean being a technical guy and being absolutely hopeless at PR really worked against him, but breaking down all the complaints into information he could use to prioritise fixes and updates is exactly how a good technical lead would handle feedback. I still regret getting sucked into the hypetrain and going against my gut when this game came out. That regret was compounded by the fact that I was among those who frowned at the devs without understanding their story. This video, out of *everything* Internet Historian has made, is the one most precious to me. It showed me that not every disaster is because of greed or hate or malice. Sometimes its just a series of circumstances spiralling out of control. And, sometimes, the people involved actively try to make things better. God bless the folks at Hello games.

The fact that there was an update of nearly 6 GB not even 24 hours ago makes his talk about the game just being constantly worked on that much more real. @moviebad109 Жыл бұрын
Yup, I played it on release, played for a week or so and gave up for lack of content. I went back to it with 2 friends to do some multiplayer about 6 months ago, and we had an absolute blast. So much more to do now. Setting up bases on resource rich planets, missions, the nexus stuff, the new fleet mechanic. We got about 80 hours out of that playthrough in total. Which is almost 4 times what I got out of it at release. And the best part was that ALL of the updates are free. It sat there collecting dust for a long while, but becuase of the passion of the devs, it was also collecting updates.
@standard-carrier-wo-chan Жыл бұрын
For real. The devs turned the one of the absolute biggest disasters of game releases to ever grace this Earth into probably the only successful gaming redemption story in history. 1:19:31 giving people a timeline after promising the fixes would have set even more expectations which was the exact same problem that got them into that mess. I think they should have given updates on the patches as they happened in development instead of complete silence but maybe that would have caused other problems I didn't think about.
@Jack_Rakan Жыл бұрын
I think the updates on the patch progress would have been called more lies and demand proof, thus giving Sean two options: release the patch early with fewer features/bug fixes, resulting in the gaming press calling it a rush job/ lip service patch, and ending in more bad PR. Or not releasing the patch early, feeding the argument that Sean is a liar, and ending in more bad PR. So imo, the complete radio silence and releasing new updates only when the devs are sure they're ready was the right call.
@billyxxxx1738 Жыл бұрын
Considering their position after the release i think it was a smart move to stay silent and let the fans warm back up to Hello games through their actions. Not only would it highlight that they haven't abandoned the game but show their sincerity, and most importantly effort of fixing their mistakes. It's understanable if their are people who still wouldn't go back to NMS aftert the debacle and still see Sean as just a scummy scam artist. But no one can deny, that they actually gave effort in fixing their game and not just be up their own asses. A sentiment that even big triple A studios fail to do still.

A lot of other tubers do so, but I still like watching people react to “Ididathing’s” dry Aussie humor. A great opening vid (and imo one of his best) is making the gun hammer, but I also have a soft spot of him rating all of the animals in his backyard (he’s from Australia, so lot of unique animals)

_Wow._ This was an amazing video, and I don't mean Internet Historian's (I mean, _it is,_ but I've watched it dozens of times already). This was basically 90 minutes of you being on the same exact wavelength as Mr. Historian *and I was here for it.* All of the tangents were extremely interesting too: as someone who really isn't into Esports and knew next to nothing of your career beside a few mentions in passing in your other videos, it was a real treat to hear about your own experiences and legacy, and how you related to Sean and co. and the hardships they went through. Mad respect for everything you accomplished. Btw, fun fact: Sean himself watched that video, and posted on Twitter about it imploring people to not watch the last part... If listening to it was painful for you, imagine the people at Hello Games xD

Glad you're checking out more of IH's stuff. I love the way he tells this story from the public's side then goes back and re-tells it from behind the scenes. It's fun watching people's reactions and how their perception changes when they realise what actually went down. "That zone between 50 and 52" probably get's my vote for next as it has some great editing, or "My Immortal" which is a dramatic reading of a really bazar emo harry potter fan fiction, but there's a nice back library of entertaining video's and you can't really go wrong. Keep up the great content, I love your overall positivity!

Seeing Alicia get this tilted over it is both gratifying and tilting. Because shes right, this is messed up, though not exactly as it seems either But also almost all her questions get answered *in* the video. Sometimes in the very line she interrupted to pause. And didnt rewind. So theres elements missed
@Ragedaonenlonely Жыл бұрын
Yes. I find it grating how she pauses every 5 seconds or every other sentence in the video then acts surprised at what she just said is covered. Just watch the video and then give your thoughts on it after you've watched for a bit. There's no need to pause it every other second.
@unknownguyindo4356 Жыл бұрын
@@Ragedaonenlonely It's a reaction video. Better than just saying "Wow/That's crazy!" with everything that happened in the video. If you want that, just watch the original video instead of watching the reactors.
@Ragedaonenlonely Жыл бұрын
@@unknownguyindo4356 Pausing every 5 seconds like that isn't reacting to the video. It's reacting to tiny snippets of it which just leads to you reiterating points that are already covered in the video instead of reacting to it as a whole. It's like only looking at half of a painting while critiquing art. You're not getting the full experience cutting it into pieces like that.
@leritykay8911 Жыл бұрын
@@Ragedaonenlonely No, it's more like going from top to bottom on a painting, looking over the details. It's better than just to see Mona Lisa for ten seconds and say "wow that's cool"
@Ragedaonenlonely Жыл бұрын
@@leritykay8911 It's like looking at the bottom part and going "nice painting, would be cool if she was smiling though" before looking up and realizing that yes, she in fact was. If you had just given it a second longer to get there first, thus making the whole comment void.

Your speaking about men being assaulted and abused earned a sub. No one really speaks about it. My fiance wrote a fictional book about the subject but sadly no one cares about that or if you're a guy who has gone though that you get laughed at. I know cause when i was a young teen i was sexually abused for a few years and 30 years later it still effects me, but no one really ever touches on it.

To answer your question about the Cyberpunk release. I'm a PC player and I played the game starting release day and there were a good number of bugs, but not enough to cause any serious gripes from me. The large majority of the issues were on the previous gen and next consoles where CDPR weren't able to fully finish the porting of the game to those platforms. For me, as a PC player, we were getting regular updates within weeks of release to fix major bugs and by the six month mark, it was a perfectly stable game I had played mulitple times. It wasn't until then CDPR started working steadily on the patches and updates for the consoles. In comparison, I also was a release day player of NMS and by the first week I was done playing it and got tired of it. At least until the new updates started releasing months later.

btw, there have been SEVENTEEN updates to No Man's Sky since that video came out. After Synthesis, they released Living Ship, Exo Mech, Desolation, Origins, Next Generation, Companions, Expeditions, Prisms, Fronteirs, Sentinel, Outlaws, Endurance, Waypoint, the Nintendo Switch release, Fractal, Interceptor and the most recent update, Echoes, which came out just this past August. And the price of the game hasn't gone up.

Man, I still remember one of the game awards, I believe it was 2020-2021? The Award was something like, "best online game that continues to update" or something about, there was Among us, Fortnite and massive games that update constantly, then, there was No Man's Sky Next. Sean Murray was on a call on the event as it wasn't on stage, with the others Devs for the games nominated. They pan out of the Dev's views, to announce the winner. Sean gets out a beer and starts drinking, at that moment in time No Man's Sky was barely on it's comeback. 'Next' Wins. Over all the others. You can see the actual surprise on the dude's face as he lays down the beer from his mouth. For me, I really still think about that moment. I think at some point he nearly cried but I can remember it for sure. Should really watch that again, it was pretty nice

I don't really know, but I suspect NMS being full price (with the occasional sale) is what helps the 26 devs in that studio to keep releasing new updates for free and with zero microtransactions, while also being able to fund their other projects, like The Last Campfire and an untitled big project Murray said they are working on.

His Space Station 13 review is great.

No Man's Sky is an example of 'When you hit rock bottom, there's only ONE place left to go." They were essentially MADE liars. But instead of giving up and just walking away, they buckled down, and proceeded to make their 'lies' TRUE, because Hello Games was BETTER than that.
