I think that the reason Al starts panting or becomes out of breath is because it's a muscle memory he has. He doesn't actually need the breath, but it's what he would be doing in that situation and so that's how he reacts without realizing it

Reminds me of a book I read where these people had physical corporeal bodies but are technically dead. They still felt hunger and physical fatigue, but it was just psychological because those feelings were normal to have and they had to train to forget those feelings.

Regarding Gerso and Zampano, the two chimera soldiers: it's another aspect that I really enjoy about this show. Because yes, as Alicia predicted, in most series, the two of them would have been slightly stronger mooks, there to give our protagonists a slightly harder fight. They would then be defeated and either killed or imprisoned, and that would be the last we saw of them. But not in this show. We're shown that they have their own history, motivations, and families. They were our enemies, but they aren't evil or malicious; they were following orders without knowing the wider scope of things.

28:13 It is fine Alicia. There are currently only 3 alchemists which the show has presented to have seen the Truth. I cannot say the reason Hohenheim is a candidate (spoilers of course), but you will get the answer in the future. So, feel free to cook your own prediction of who could be the 5th candidate. Please note that only Alchemists can open the portal of Truth, that should serve as a hint.

I always interpreted the panting on Al's part as an attempt to seem more human. Both to hide his secret from outsiders, and for his own mental state. The reason he does it while alone, is probably because he's just so well practiced, that he does it without thought at this point.

7:40 Winry didn't actually promise that; Ed is the one who promised that the next time he makes her cry, they will be tears of joy. Like always charging in to attack an enemy because he can’t get winded, or continuously sprinting toward an objective when it’s truly a priority? As for why Al pants, its kinds like when someone moves there arms in a dream when theyre swimming. Al isnt just a sentient suit of armor. He remembers what having a human body is like. Vague memories of the cold, exhaustion, etc. Not to mention mental fatigue
@marmyeater
@marmyeater 11 ай бұрын
Well, mental fatigue is also due to physical fatigue. Your brain is constantly sending electrical signals through fleshy pathways while chemicals are generated by adjacent flesh, and that flesh tires out and ceases to function without rest. That's partly why properly done undead and golems are so effective and scary: their bodies and emotions don't come from that combination of electrical signals and chemicals, and they can technically operate at their peak efficiency with no changes or problems, and can even theoretically exist in the same intense emotional state forever.

It's amazing how many character Fullmetal Alchemists introduces and your first thought is "Okay we wont see them much after the reason for them being here and their plot is done" and then they just continue being there and gets thrown into new plots. Feels very real unlike how many stories are written where the main protag or our PoV is all that matters and characters outside it are shallow and lacks depth.

I always felt that Al pants because he's still connected to his body. And the more he exerts himself in the armor, the weaker that connection is, and the stronger the draw becomes. So how we've hit a point in which the body can start ACTIVELY calling the soul back. It wants to be whole, and can now start trying to make it that way. Or at least make more forceful suggestions towards it.

Al runs out of breath because it's human nature to breath without thinking, he still does it despite being in the armor because it's subconcious. You don't just forget to breath. Think of it like phantom limb syndrome where despite losing a limb, your body still feels like it's there because from birth you've always had it.

10:10 Weird thing to chime in on but I would say a cop is a bully looking to exercise their power for the sake of it and a police officer, an office of the law, actually cares about serving the community. Yeah. That's the thing about Miles. It's a naive way of thinking. It's good cause he could very well be a pivotal person who inspires change, but not within the broken system he's in. Miles is honestly just really lucky that he was born during a complete reconstruction period with a great boss. Are there good cops? Sure. Until they're placed in a situation where they need to act like cops. Following orders/protocol/the protection mechanisms available to them. Their system is broken. That's why people say good cops end up either fired or dead. The system doesn't support them. Miles is honestly a really lucky guy to have General Armstrong. Anywhere else, he would have been in serious trouble. SPOILERS And ultimately, he ended up going with Scar to rebuild Ishval. And he was only allowed to do so because of his boss. Once again. FMAB I think misses the mark a little in this topic. But it's thematically harmonious with the major message. Enduring with positivity. It's sweet, but not applicable when a lot of things needed to be destroyed and rebuilt. Destruction and rebuilding is also a theme. Ironically, Scar is the embodiment of that principle when he accepted both sides of alchemy. And he's arguably the person in the story who incites the most change. Maybe you need a Miles and you need a Scar? An idealist and the true vehicle for change.

Tbh, Al panting for breath makes me think of the Matrix, during Neo's sparing with Morpheus, where he's like "do you think that's air you're breathing now?" I feel like certain things become so ingrained that you just do them whether it's needed or not, out of sheer habit or expectation that that's how you should feel after exertion.

Cops in USA can be dickheads, but I've genuinely been helped so much by few of them. I was late at night, a bit lost and tired after a long flight. A cop not only guided me, but carried the heavy bags I had to my room. Just a genuinely nice human helping me. There are many cops who have helped many people for sure. I was always on there are good ones and there are bad ones, but then after the Supreme Court ruling that police have no specific obligation to protect, I lost any respect I had for the institution as a whole. "Serve and Protect" yeah right! Just dismantle it and come up with system that doesnt serve power fantasy for corrupt egomaniacs, but actually attracts nice people who want to serve and protect. We dont need a task force for just politicians and rich people.

You can go into being a cop with all the best reasons in the world, but as soon as you have to help abuse a bunch of homeless people or peaceful protestors, you have the choice of either being complicit or quitting. So it's hard for there to be good cops when even the ones who are trying have to follow orders to keep their jobs. It's naive at best to think you can change a corrupt system from within.

I don't understand defending violent people that call for violence against any class of people. Doesn't matter if cops or other races. No, I don't think they know there are good cops out there. You can change "cops" with whatever you want and you get how bad saying that really is.

The attempt to defend the ACAB people kinda falls flat when the majority of them regularly call for/celebrate the death of your run of the mill patrol cop. They used the word “all” for a reason, and they clarify that they do in fact mean all whenever someone tries to have even a slightly nuanced take on the matter. Sorry, you’re just wrong on this one.

I think it should also be mentioned that there is a very good and unfortunately realistic reason why well intention people who come into these positions typically don't make any real, _long-lasting change._ These systems and institutions? They are bigger and older than any one person, and so attempting to reform them pretty much cannot be done in any one person's lifetime. The status quo always comes back. We can even take these examples and look at them in the context of Fullmetal Alchemist. The homunculi may have been controlling the country for 400 years behind the scenes, but we see a flashbacks that they always had human helpers, like the scientists who were part of the human based homunculus project. Why? Because immoral and greedy people are drawn to positions of influence and power where they don't have to play by the rules. It's unfortunate, but that's just the way it happens all the time.

While I enjoy seeing more Chimera in the series, it's a shame they more or less look alike, at least in human form. Greed's entourage at least looked distinct enough to tell apart. But the new Chimera all look like burly men so it's harder to tell the one from the other (and skin color doesn't count, don't be racist).

Wouldn't it only be racist if they thought that one was better cause of their skin color?

the whole ACAB thing with me has always been. If i see a police officer injured or in trouble i'll help him cause they are a human being. However i dont like the concept of police cause to me they are nothing but an arm for the state. For anyone wondering im not saying there should never be police or a form of law enforcement. What im saying like alicia said if the overall system of the state is corrupted then the police will be corrupted systematically we see it here in the the UK with the met police.

Nah. People who use ACAB don't have that nuance. If you actually had nuance, you wouldn't use that ridiculous term.

Yeah, that was a best faith interpretation of the movement that I am not willing to believe. Mainly because I'm from the Pacific Northwest and saw firsthand what the ACAB types act like and say when they ransacked Seattle and Portland when the blm movement was in full swing. It's not about, nor was it ever about police reform.

Dude love the political shpeel about cops and oppression. Don't dive on this comment but a clear understanding is something few people have. Not that we know everything, we know very little of the whole picture. But a sensible approach is rare. well played.
