What I like about the notes from Scar's Brother is that it gives you a glimpse about how Alchemists hide their knowledge at plain sight, Marco's with "Cooking recipes", Scar's Brother with "Philosophy", Roy, Riza and Grumman with "Chess and Silly Gossip" and the Elric´s (not showed in her but in the manga) with "Travel Logs". They make it clear every time, look underneath of what is underneath.

Notice how Hohenheim's transmutation glow is blue and not red, as with the use of a philosopher's stone. But Ed's use of his own soul/lifeforce was likewise blue. I think Hohenheim is so skilled that he can use alkahestry's distance transmutation, combined with Truth-born circleless transmutation, to perform alchemy at-will, limited only by the law of equivalent exchange.

No its just animation inconsistency. Kimblee had red lightning before even using his stone just to make a smoke screen earlier that should have been blue. Both Ed when healing himself and Hohenheim should have had red light and going forward Hoeheheim will only have red light when using his alchemy.

Sometimes I wonder if 2003 FMA was written and finished before the manga checked back in on Liore and what Rose was getting up to. Cuz I wonder if Rose's predicament in the manga was influenced at all by 2003. Cuz well....iykyk. Always glad to see her thriving in this version at least. 2003 SPOILERS Rose's story is so profoundly fucked in 2003, just seeing her happy and making do with helping people with no added trauma is a blessing. Which is why I wonder if the author decided on that just because she'd been through enough.

I can't personally say I know the timeline difference between 2003 and Manga return to Liore, but it is known that the author okay'd the 2003 series to do it's own thing. Which would include some chracters being in a worse position than Mangahood. Maybe the Mangaka always intended for Rose to have a relatively happier storyline. Or maybe actually initially thought to go just as dark as 2003 until sitting back and deciding to avoid reduncancy in repeating something people already saw. Or maybe the Anime writers already got notes on how the Mangaka was doing it, but proceeded anyway with their more darker direction. That's the funny bonus to having a completed "sibling script" to compare notes. The ability to sit back and consider alternate options.

Sad Fact: In the original anime, Rose was a victim of rape and carried a child because of what Ed and Al did at the start of the show. It’s a massive change of pace between what Fullmetal Alchemist and what Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood bring to the table, so if want to watch the OG FMA, steel yourself.
