@@SofaSloths Did you know that David is the reason for the first Alien Queen for ever being made. He was the reason for creating them, He used Dr. Elizabeth Shaw to create the very first Alien Queen. I also found that on videos and others explaining that to me. Creepy. this is why I say David is a nightmare.

Ridley Scott made it no secret that he hates every Alien film that came out after the first film and hated the concept of the Queen alien introduced in Aliens. While the majority of the fanbase had no issue with David creating the Alien seen in this movie since you can imagine that used the Engineers notes they (me included) hate the idea of him being the creator of the Alien as a whole. If you have the time there are a few channels on here that talks about or is even about this franchise if you want to learn more about the lore.

@WelshDragon8423 (Cool name, btw.) Well, I am one fan which supports you line of thinking. Like I mention in my comment, David being the _sole_ creator of the xenomorphs always rubbed me the wrong way.

@mariopenavic8573 David creating the Xenomorphs as we know them always seemed too convenient to me. I like the display of showing the separate alien iterations in David's experiments but I feel that the aliens should have evolved more organically/naturally
@tar-mairo3 ай бұрын
@@jimbillson4183 Agreed. My criticism aside, I really dig the designs and concepts for both the Neomorph and the Preatomorph. Too bad that supposed scene of the two strains fighting it out was cut (supposedly it was difficult to shoot and was compared to the T. Rex vs Spinosaurus clash in _Jurassic Park 3_ of all things, haha). Regarding their origin overall, the xenomorph's pure agression, their odd physical quirks and the presence of eggs as payload in the Derelict always made me think of them as artificial creations rather than evolving naturally. But I think natural evolution might also make sense, they are *alien* after all!

I really love this movie, but my biggest complaint is how it completely messes up the life-cycle of the Xeno, like you said in the original movie it took waaay longer, like hours from the point where Kane was first infected to when he was having breakfast with everybody else when it was birthed, then more hours for it to grow to it's full size. Here it's like 10 minutes from when the captain is infected before its birthed, then another 10 minutes for it to reach full size? Makes no sense.
@SofaSloths2 ай бұрын
Agreed! This really confused me! But to be honest after watching all of the franchise the timing for this is a mess! I think the timing in the first movie was perfect but after that they needed to move the plot along but it still annoys me 😅
@ChibiHoshiDragonАй бұрын
It is supposed to be ~2 hours incubation at this point, not 10 minutes. The novel shows they believe Oram went off to find Rosenthal and fell asleep. At one point, they said it would take several hours to configure the lift and strip it of equipment to rescue them and they should reestablish contact at 6 bells. Daniels throws that out the window and says they should come down earlier than estimated, which is why there was still equipment on the lift that hadn't been removed. Lopé is implanted 15 minutes before the lift arrives. We see sunrise happen right before the lift scene battle, again confirming it is 6 bells Mother is taken offline and comes back online at 8 bells - right after Lopé's alien is born. The only issue is the full size - which appears to happen in 15 minutes.

I admit they are getting better and better at making things feel ten time more scarier than the last movie. But this one sort of fucked me up for a bit. to be honest, this is my first time watching it again, since the first time I watched it when it first came out. Some of the extra scenes and the new breeds of aliens and how there born, I mean all you have to do it step on the wrong thing and you can be impregnated, or something can get inside of your body and can grow on inside of you. Man. Like I said I haven't watched in a long time. I am kind of rewatching this with you.

Yooo, looking fancy there, Ryan! Good to know you know your crops, haha, but what an awesome reaction! I suspected this would be either yesterday or today, and I was so anxious about how you would feel about it, since eh, Scott did some extensive executive meddling and tinkering in both pre/postproduction. And you can tell! Okay, likewise, the creature & set designs, visuals overall, masterful performance by Fassbender and especially the haunting score by Jed Kurzel (very evocative of Goldsmith's score for the original film), all top notch! Everything else is … eh, messy. Particularly the characters and their actions throughout. Maybe you can chalk it up to their desperation or the _Covenant_ crew even being some rogue operators? That said, and I am not trying to sound like I am pandering here, but watching the film alongside you reminded me why I liked it overall. (Or your positivity is just so infectious?) And you made some good and insightful observations too - I never caught that warning in _Lander One_ before. Now, to help you out some. Hm, see Scott originally wanted David to sort of reverse engineer (no pun intended) the creation of the xenomorph but late in production decided to make David _the_ sole creator of the regular xenomorph we know and love. Now, this makes little sense from both timeline and in-universe sense since it leaves not enough a time jump until the setting of _Alien_ ( _Covenant_ happens in 2104 while _Alien_ is set in 2121, I think ) whereas you can clearly see the xenomorph outline in the temple on LV-223 in _Prometheus_ and the Engineer in _Alien_ was fossilized, implying its origins are much, much older. Thankfully, the production studio swooped in and retconned it to David simply using the Engineer black goo in creating his own strain of xenomorphs: the Neomorph (those pale, ugly ones developed from spores and motes) and the Preatomorph (the sleeker and more aggressive xenomorph-looking one), both of those evolutionary dead ends. There was even supposed to be an awesome fight scene between the two variants (with the Preatomorph showing who is the superior fighter, obviously) while Daniels and Lope are escaping but alas, it wasn't filmed. However, now this begs the question, which is gorier to you: death by Neomorph or by xenomorph birth, hehe? With all that out of the way, highlights! Best jumpscare: too many! but maybe indeed the Neomorph birth sequence or David deactivating Walter? Best line: ''Oh, no. Nothing good happens when you take a leak.'' Haha! Best shocking moment: either the first appearance of the Preatomorph or when it got squashed by the crane! You looked absolutely gagged!! And, yes, best dancing moment: _Take Me Home_ by John Denver, ahaha!! You made me laugh with that one. And I started singing too. Finally, if you have more questions, maybe these two short films (kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5y7mIWih8aia6ssi=OnCf9dNIsXbCf39c) & (kzbin.info/www/bejne/jpawh6WkjrOqq9Usi=ylSrPYY3C2kWRO-4) done by Ridley's son Luke will give you more answers. Or just ask away. Sorry for the huge wall of text and looking forward to the next reaction! I don't know about you, but it will be fun for me!

Hey, yes this film was an interesting one!! Overall I enjoyed it but you raise some good points!! I didn't realise that this movie was set so close to the first Alien movie!!! A showdown between the two variants could have been an interesting and fun watch!! As to which death is gorier uhhhh thats a great question haha! The Neomorph scene was so intense but it might have been because it was so different!!! The inclusion of John Denver was an unexpected but delightful moment haha! I will definitely check out those videos to learn some more about it! It's been a hell of a ride, and I'm hopeful and excited to see what the new one brings!! Thanks again for such an insightful comment!

@@SofaSloths Yeah, Neomorphs were really something new! (Although I think that the infection by spores was an wild idea in one of the earlier drafts during _Alien3_ infamously troubled production. Again, a metaphor for AIDS, maybe?) The original chestburster scene was quite shocking no doubt about it, but the Neomorph's mode of infection is just so much more stealthy and insidious, I mean you cannot even see those tiny motes/spores and its "birth" can come from anywhere in the host's body. Ugh. Just nasty.

This is an okay sci fi horror as a stand alone film, but it managed to piss off fans of Prometheus by killing Shaw off screen, none of the questions of Prometheus were answered, and it pissed off fans of the original Alien by suggesting David created the xenomorph, which makes no sense. Well alot in this movie makes no sense really, its unfortunate. But at least it looks like Alien Romulus will be the kind of Alien film we have been waiting for. Just a few days now.

This movie they step up the gory, the horror, the scary trapped feeling, I have to admit. And if I remember correctly Alien Rulmus is supposed to pick after this movie.
@tar-mairo3 ай бұрын
The mystery about it is one thing that intrigues me about _Romulus_ : there is a substantial time gap between the two films, _Covenant_ is set in 2104 while _Romulus_ happens almost 40 years later in about 2142 - but (much like Ridley Scott) the team behind the film has went back-and-forth on just how much it is connected to earlier films. I think at least one of the producers and/or writers has mentioned no connections whatsoever while the director Fede Alvarez has implied some nods to the original _Alien_ & _Covenant_ at least. Personally, I would really like some twisted tie-in with both! And in support of your other comment, I also found myself liking the _Covenant_ more and more watching it alongside Ryan. Go figure, haha!

@mariopenavic8573 I try my best, I do research once in a while through Google, but I also looked through other people's channels on KZbin and I found a lot of comic books based on the Alien and even Predator franchise, for a lot of the movies came from most of the comics or most of them were, so I heard.
@tar-mairo3 ай бұрын
@@serenitytoepper There are plenty of media born out of both _Alien_ and _Predator_ franchises, comics and video games galore, even novels I think, but the films themselves are pretty original. Well, I say that, but there are always strong parallels which some people call either creative similarities at best or rip-off thefts at worst, hehe: the first _Alien_ movie is allegedly slightly similar to Mario Bava's _Planet of the Vampires_ (haven't seen it) and _Prometheus_ in plot is often compared to H.P. Lovecraft's novel _At the Mountains of Madness_ (yeah, I have read it, and there are some general similarities). There was a lot of online rumor that _Romulus_ will be similar or is an outright adaptation of _Alien: Isolation_ but those mostly went away after the trailers came out and showed how Alvarez is going back to the slasher roots of the franchise with an original story. Funnily enough, this gimmick was in full effect when I watched the first _Hangover_ film; during the screening, I started thinking "Wait, where have I seen this before?", which was impossible since the film just came out. But after some time I understood that the general plot (not the details) is highly reminiscent of that of Peter Berg's 1998 _Very Bad Things_ . The protagonists go to Las Vegas and end up in a very compromised situation but whereas in _The Hangover_ the plot then focuses on the immediate consequences in a lighthearted way, _Very Bad Things_ deals with the developed longterm issues in a more realistic and yet indeed very, _very_ dark and twisted sense of humor.
