Granted a post space exploration, advanced APHE, but I am still sure they have a better penetrating round. these aren't tanks, they are artillery, Artillery is for indirect fire, tanks are for direct fire. If you can't see the target when you shoot, it is artillery, simple as that.

Tanks can be used for artillery, they just aren't that good at it. Usually reduced range, if not also accuracy. Russia used them in that roll when the amount of artillery they lost strained their demand. It's reasonable to believe that, in the future, artillery and tanks would fuse into one roll, as more compact equipment and cheaper shells are produced. Most of the technology is there, it's just not practical to smash it all into one vehicle yet

@@dragonheart5312 This is obviously future humanity. So a weapon system that allows a tank to double as a self propelled artillery system would be a dream development for any human military. Now your tanks can engage any enemy that your side can see and not just the ones in their immediate line of sight. In any case, these tanks' guns have a range of 80 km. No real world gun short of experimental rail gun has that kind of range. Current 155mm field artillery tops out at 20-30 km, and that requires rocket assisted projectiles to get that much range. The 16 inch guns of WWII Battleships don't reach much further. This is because chemical explosives can only expand and push bullets down barrels so fast. The tanks in this story should have been using some kind of EM gun (rail gun or coil gun) to get 80km effective ranges. Although a hypothetical hybrid system might explain the chemical explosions, ie, chemical propellant provides an initial burst of speed and electromagnetic accelerators just add to the velocity.

An obvious reason for not using kinetics are logistics. Ammo takes up space and add weight. In any case their approach by flying did indeed ruin their stealth. if they had behaved like trained attack helicopter pilots they would have fared better. Stay out of sight, use cover, and make pop up attacks from behind cover. Then reposition. If these forces instead where allies and trained together they would become formidable. Perhaps something for another story set after this war some years later when a really nasty enemy shows up?

I think the reason is they never encounter anything that could threaten them so they rely only on shield honestly this mech would have done better by just taking cover or crouching down like what a normal person do during combat find comber and try to show as little profile as possible in other words try not to be a target.

Likely, their failure to use their stealth properly was because it was so new. They're the first to have it, so they hadn't yet worked out the kinks of using their technology, like the stealth not covering their flight exhaust.

Personally I think being assigned as QRF is the worst assignment you could get. If your side is having problems and is calling for the QRF things have gone well past just hitting the fan and your being called to fix it or at least slow it long enough to get reinforcements. If they don't call you it's draining on your nerves being on standby until relieved.

@@joosyjulie its supposed to be a relatively benign, albeit obnoxious, reminder that there are 2 major measurement systems and we’d like for ours to be included. Same thing happens from the metric people when someone posts a recipe in teaspoons/cups/quarts. For HFY stories, i think it feels slightly out of place to say both, so I personally don’t grumble about it. As a personal opinion/observation, a lot of HFY stories seem to draw on American culture with regard to firearms, aggressive militaries, bigger is better, etc. Big respect to all service members of western militaries, but it seems that the US versions are more commonly used.

Gundam vs Reality, the alien commander's name is a big giveaway, the name 'Zack' is a western localization, but the original name is Japanese, and it's pronounced and spelled exactly 'Zaku'. When does this channel become a dream shatterer? NVM, I like it, TBH as I'm always on Team MBT. And as I watched to the end, I'd like to say, A loader in an MBT during the age human space warships flew, seriously? I think at that age there must be some advanced autoloader prototypes that load the gun twice the speed of manual loading with better reliability than muscles got rejected despite the clear evident of superiority due to bureaucracy preference. And about sleek design, just something looks cool and sleek doesn't mean it's good, remember than Soviet-era MBTs such as T-72 also has sleek design, but then T-90A happened replacing the rounded cast turret with a welded one, and then T-14 happened as an attempt of universal AFV platform.
