The only thing I found truly unrealistic about this is the implication that Americans, even in the future, would ever *allow* it to get to a point that they would *have* to certify to be able to use their firearms. Everything else was extremely well written and voiced. I'm looking forward to episode 2!

it's the future. Considering the increasing regulations. I remember when I was younger I walked into a gunshop and bought a 30-30 lever action rifle and walked out with it then. Before that you just bought a gun like any other object, no registration or other paperwork except the transaction receipt.

From the writing he could have been European. They have much different rules than USA has, not all of the world thinks like you do. Many countries I hunt in your AR even with 5 round mags is illegal… actually I would say all but USA. Some do allow an extremely modified AR but it’s actually basically a direct pull bolt action.

Brock Hanson is attending his first day of classes at Sunspire Academy, his first class: Human History. Of course it is. It's the closest thing to a cultural studies class he could find that still had open seats, and of course learning about Humans is way easier for him- being a human himself- than learning about other species. But, when the subject of human warfare comes up and the professor misidentifies several weapons, Brock can't help but politely correct him; resulting in him being grilled on human weapons by the professor who takes a keen interest in Brock's sport shooting hobby. A hobby he happens to maintain thanks to his father's wealth allowing him to bring his favorite gun and a target launching machine he regularly uses at his private dorm.

I had similiar experience in middle school I was interested more in guns and history in mechanical sense but people around just assumed that i was stereotipical "Quiet kid" and after some explanation they understood that my interests were not girls and vaping but guns. As for story Brock has his priorities straight and he won't tolerate any mistakes about firearms 😂

OMG! What a hook! A new story line, not some AI scraping, with new and believable characters, and a masterful hook at the end. By way of explanation a "hook" is the technical term for something that engages the audience, encouraging further engagement. This is one of, if not THE, best SciFi channels. It is my duty, as a SciFi consumer for almost a century, to give credit [and sometimes discredit] where due. The stories presented on this site are not always to my personal taste, but are always well written, well produced and well voiced. The ones that are most appealing to me, a diehard Frairen and pizza fan, are, IMO, the best on line. Kudos for great stories and great production values! Finally, the human producers and the superbly talented voice actors would put the AI plagiarists to shame , if they and their programmers were capable of shame. Achievements appreciated and awarded 🏆🏅🏅🏅

Pretty similar styling to the Lakota storytelling I've heard as well. (I'm not Tribal, but I grew up in southeast SD, and many of my school friends were) It's a really good way to keep a person's attention, and it's used for a lot of audiobooks.

Probably a good thing he didn't mention live hunting rituals that did happen to the class or wolf like our history of fox hunting, or even the slight possibility of human hunting among others or about poaching or that yes we still have some that hunt live animals every year as part of the hunting sport 😂😅 as for some of the hobbies I'm suprised he didn't also mention sky diving or those that jump from helicopters to ski or snowboard mountains. Way to many hobbies are about seeing how far we can go 😅 especially considering the Olympics with the shooting ranges or triathlons with the ski and shooting portions. I feel like alot of hobbies or sports are 'I don't know but let's see' results

Yeah, range skeet uses professional equipment, which is almost always going to be significantly more powerful than your home launcher. (unless you put something like 5 of the rubber bands on it, and reinforce it to handle the torque)

Clay shooting (skeet and trap) under modern settings may not be that “advanced”. But rifle and pistol 10m,25m, 50m and on up to 600m I believe use laser and acoustic sensors to track/detect hits on the target. Heck the laser sensors are so accurate you don’t actually need paper to record a shot.

That is correct. My assumption is that it was the magazine for the launcher rather than the shotgun. Either way, something is amiss. Either they were rather vague about my idea, or they were gravely mistaken as to how O/U shotguns operate.

The O/U was the first, but not the last. Most O/U don't have chokes, either, so I assumed it was a different weapon. Some shotguns do use a magazine, some even have drums. But as mentioned above, I think the magazine was for the pigeons, not the shotguns. The author(s) just didn't go into too much detail there.

Maybe he meant millions simultaneously, rather than millions total? It's in the future, so it'd probably be billions total, just from America. (with far fewer regulations and certifications than implied in this story, which sounds like a very European shooting situation)
