Another interesting aspect is that Creative Assembly Total War series is great in every aspect except the AI. Their AI has been downfall at times. It was most notorious in Empire: Total War where they made a game with a huge naval aspect in the 1700s but the AI was incapable of sending armies across the sea or doing Amphibious attacks. Heck, you can play England on it and take Paris in the first 3-4 turns and eliminate France.

For those who are not familiar with it, the AI on the alien basically has two brains. There is one AI that is the creature itself, which is actively hunting you down and is limited to only what the Alien can perceive, while the other is a larger scale one, which basically just keeps track of things like where you and the alien are both located, and basically gives the alien "hints" to try to find you if it starts to get too far away from you. The latter's purpose is basically to heighten tension while also keeping the game fair enough that it's still playable.

Correct. If you save and reload the Alien resets. Also he said the Alien can't get hurt by the revolver. This is also not true. The revolver can stun the Alien if you shoot it in the head. It does a great job at just making you feel isolated with an alien (pun intended) even with the flamethrower or with a heap of molotov's or pipe bombs it doesn't ever feel like you have enough supplies to just barge through the alien and just keep going. At most you can make a couple mistakes or by yourself a good chunk of time but you can't ever be rid of it completely. Not to mention you have that one section where you're in the hive and there isn't just 1 alien but like 3-4 and it becomes really hectic and scary cause you have to burn through supplies since stealth isn't really as much of an option anymore. I think overall it just does a great job at not making you so weak you feel like nothing you do is worthwhile like say you're playing an amnesia game but it also doesn't make you feel like the alien is weak but rather you just have more options to buy yourself time or to fight back a bit rather than forcing you to just avoid it or hide the entire game

If you save and the Alien kills you while in the middle of the save, when you reload, the Alien will not respawn to instantly rekill you, it will be back in the ducts, somewhere. As for dying after the animation has finished... that's not a thing either. Game gives you time to alter the outcome. Also, the Alien AI doesn't repeat the same action when it loses line of sight. It's random. So, you can do the same exact thing, and the Alien's actions won't always be the same. Basically the game's save system is designed not to soft lock you. Now.. if ur playing the hardest difficulty... well that's on u. not the game.

the only big flaw of this game is the reuse of map design near the end of it, and the ton of backtracking you gotta do . The anesidora part of the game is also pretty dull for me, because the ship's interior design just looks like an extension of sevastopol, like you can tell the devs either didnt care or didnt have the time so they reused assets from sevastopol to make the anesidora

It's a proper classic on it's own, regardless of it's Alien-heritage. One of few games I want to own on several platforms because it's fun on PC, PS4/5 and Switch.

The flamethrower is an issue. It does ruin the tension with the xeno becoming less of a menace and more of a fly to be swatted while working obj. Love the game, but it breaks the fear and just leaves you to jump scares.

Correction on saving when the alien is around. You will load and the alien will not be right behind you (it happened to me once).

*Most of the time. If there is a situation where the drop is guaranteed with high agro, you can get into a save death loop in a small room, such as m6 room where you pick up the keycard to enter medical operations area. Basically, under specific circumstances, the alien spawns back into vents, but is guaranteed to drop into the same room with you if possible.

I just got through beating the game again. Great review of AI. It is in my top five best games I've ever played. I wanted an AI2 so bad. They did a phenomenal job with the Alien programming. I hoped future games feed off the gameplay of this. The first time I got to the Hive I turned the game off. I decided that I was gonna save that for another day.😅

How this mirrors my own view, or image if this game. I am not a huge fan or the horror survivor genre, but i am an alien(s) fan boy. I love the game, have replayed it a few times, and though i get frustrated sometimes of how the missions are designed, i always end up wanting more. Yes for me this game is too short, i could without blink have spent 50+ hours sneaking and avoiding the alien. The game and the story deserves a part 2.

Let me be honest here because im a casual gamer and i will firstly admit that im not hardcore nor skilled. And we average gamers are MANY in population. This game sold poorly, and its not because of competition at the time Me and million other gamers had avoided this game because of its difficulty and slow gameplay. If the game had more difficulty variety to allow players to indulge in the story and atmosphere without being killed immediately, it wouldve sold better. And im not even asking for cod like alien game, but horror games like Silent hill were very accessible, it even let you tinker with the difficulty and ai settings and even for less cryptic puzzle solving. Far cry had sneak indicator mechanics, which in Alien Isolation you dont, like why not at least include a mechanic for an easy difficulty and just remove it for the higher difficulty. And most importantly, trial and error games are the worst type of difficulty, which is what this game also has even if the fans dont want to admit it. You definitely know that the game spawned that alien into the area when you were about to complete a task. Game developers have yet to understand that average gamers are not masochistic gamers which is why this Alien game is only kept alive by only the alien fanbase and streamers. And that people would rather watch a streamer play the Alien game(or hide n seek only game) than to actually own the game and play it. But hopefully, they’ll understand for a next Alien game.
