Emilie Gracia if the harvesters are intelligent enough to create intelligence and culture which allows them to survive the death of endless stars (or suns) then it explains exactly why they have zero interest in peace. The original script was much better in the arch of the Aliens. We never really got the slightest indication of why the plot of the first film even happened. I think a darker more intelligent version of the first film would have been amazing, as opposed to a profit based popcorn film. They were just 'aliens' no more no less. If a species with such capability had sent a 'test' suicide mission to check earths' distance from a sun, a species that were simply planning on finding new resources because it had experienced the collapse of solar sysstems multiple times in the past was put on screen, then I think it could've a far better film.

Alex Anthony In order to get the resources they actually need a source, which is why they invaded earth along with many other planets with spinning molten cores. As for why they don’t go elsewhere why not here? The mothership was already nearby anyway and the native people are in constant in-species fighting so they would probably kill themselves anyway. As for the second invasion was started by the presence of the sphere.

It’s simple Darwinian evolution at play, with little to no empathy for other species. It’s fairly obvious that these beings were very likely the first successful interstellar civilization in the Milky Way galaxy. They are probably on the verge of being a Kardashev Type 3 civilization. But most definitely a type 2. Attacking earth and other less technologically advanced civilizations had only one purpose: elimination of competition. The use of resources and planet cores of the destroyed worlds was just a convenience of the extermination process.

When I watched this film in my youth, I was tormented by the question: what can the protective screen of alien ships represent in terms of physics? Then in a science fiction book I read about the so-called gluon generator: this technology could well provide such an effect.

The creatures themselves are designed unimaginatively. Harvesters, Xenomorphs, and Predators are all based on the humanoid body plan, as though humanlike intelligence arises only in humanoid organisms. Star Trek openly embraced this absurdity as canon, while ID4 made an effort to subvert it by using puppets rather than actors to portray the Harvesters. Their design aims for uncanny valley grotesqueness--- humanoid enough to express a sense of evil intent, but distorted enough to seem alien and unsettling. They could have gone the Starship Troopers route of using believable nonhumanoid body plans, but Harvesters were based on classic "gray alien" mythology, even incorporating the Roswell Incident, so it made sense to trade believability for familiarity.

i really like the alien harvesters. from their design to their nature. in the first movie....the second...not so much. i think the harvesters had the potential to be one of sci fi's greatest alien races but the sequel just totally buried them. in the original we basically know them as being far more advanced than humans, incredibly relentless and unyielding. what made them interesting to me was that they are kind of ultimately evil, as they are completely resolute in their intentions to simply destroy earth, but clearly intelligent enough to communicate with humans but have absolutely no shred of morality. they simply see humans in the same way humans see a lesser species like termites. completely disposable. what ruined them for me in the second film was the hive mind "alien queen " garbage. i just think it was thrown in their as a plot device. their was absolutely no mention of anything such in the original film and all it does is turn the harvesters into a hive mind drone race which has been done many times in the past and has kinda become a trope. i just feel there was so much more potential. personally i think in ID2 they should have stuck to the virus theme of the original (being a nod to war of the worlds) but instead of a digital virus this time it should of been a biological virus, maybe pumped into the motherships air supply of water supply or something. would of been far simpler.

Came here to say exactly that. The aliens were properly interesting and scary in the first movie. The queen nonsense was cheap and only made the aliens stupid. All those fighters crashing after the queen dies turned the aliens from some intimidating extraterrestrial species to a Hollywood joke of a plot device. I thought everything else was pretty cool about the sequel, though. About everything in it was what I was expecting it to be, except for the dumb queen alien weak writing trope.

Something like the queen would make sense for the aliens biology considering their home planet is 10 times larger then earth so their physiology should be gigantic and bulky, and their technology reflects this well. They probably weren’t able to go to space until they invented anti gravity or their early space infrastructure was very primitive because of how large and expensive their chemical rockets would’ve had to been to reach escape velocity let alone carry their massive bodies. But in the first movie they forgot to take this into account and the only way to incorporate this design was to have the large harvester be like a hive queen.

Sammy N the Death Star requires time to charge. And our motherships are much faster than its weapon’s ability to recharge. We would be able to ram it and obliterated it before it charges. Not to mention it’s a fast moving 5000km ship.

If the first wave of harvesters is taken down by a computer technology that is made up of dos, while their systems are hundreds upon hundreds of years farther than us to the point where they could harvest a so-called black hole, then I would go ahead and say they aren't that much of a threat. It's only been 20 years and already our systems are not compatible with DOS any longer.

A lot of information they give us in these movies about aliens is true I believe. From what we understand a lot of different entities and species can communicate telepathically. They can also communicate telepathically with us there's been quite a few recorded incidents in history. Where individuals claim to have been spoken to telepathically.

Compared to other franchises I think the xenomorphs from the Aliens movies are more deadly and destructive to a planet. I would also be more confident in a gun fight against a Independence Day alien than I would against a Predator alien.

The problem with this film is that no one seems to even be trying when it comes to acting. The banter between characters is not witty or even remotely funny and just makes it all seem cheesy. Even much of the CGI looked cheesy at times. The movie could have been great with the right actors, and instead of killing of Will Smith's character, they could have alluded to him being in hiding due to some PTSD or whatever, and bring him back in the 3rd installment. They didn't even come close to the 1st one, in terms of quality. The original was smart, funny and the characters were easy to care about. This movie didn't make me care at all about any of the characters.

For the sake of "fantasy" let's assume we have all the aliens we have watched in every movie. We have a weapon. Another Alien. A belly bursting kind. Hehe. Get their attention off earth have them fight on two fronts. Let one if those loose aboard their ship. Make a deal with the Alien queen (she is pretty intelligent) and tell her those loctus are all yours if you agree to leave earth alone. Bam. Should be interesting fireworks.
