Despite my personal feelings towards where the Alien franchise has gone I still admire the heck out of the miniatures in Alien Resurrection. It did have a distinct look and atmosphere.

Long hours , all night shoots . One of the other problems we dealt with was the location we shot at. We were at the Hughes Aircraft hangers that also were close to the ocean in playa del ray. The issue was that as the tide would come in it would change the water table and the concrete floors would change in height. This is problematic for motion control. Shots dont repeat well when the camera system keeps moving. So every morning we had to re-level the track for the motion control system. It was a challenging show to work on.

My god, the hurtles they all dealt with was pretty mind blowing. But despite the Incredible trials and tribulations, after all was said and done: “the shots look great”. And they did, they really did.

As an artist who growing up wanted to do this kind of work (ended up sculpting stone) I just love hearing the details of how they accomplished these effects. Hearing the shop talk. I feel like I could have been there. Wish I had been.

Another fantastic video. A real insight into the challenges and creative solutions of special effects and model making. These people love their work and love being able to tell their stories. They are also so accessible and aren't filled with people using really technical terms either. Thanks for the efforts.

I prefer miniatures over CGI, but I wouldn't blame anyone involved with this project if they never worked minis again! Such a nightmare. Looks amazing though.

I just finished looking at the digital post production effects used the latest James Bond films quite a different world now to then they can strip out objects change lighting at snow to trees back in those days had to all be done in the camera

Not that I know of. And I don't have the budget to buy any software. It is what it is. Remember, these videos are FREE!
