Alien Resurrection is a 2000 first-person shooter video game based on the 1997 film of the same name. It was originally intended to coincide with the film's release, but was mired in development hell for several years, finally being completed and released in 2000. The game was developed by Argonaut Games and published by Fox Interactive exclusively for the PlayStation.

Back in a day, in east Europe, very few kids had their own PC. so we would gather at internet cafes and play there. Say $2~ per hour of gameplay. Sit down to a pc, turned on Aliens, almost had a heart attack when an alien came from behind. Closed game looking at screen and thinking what da heck just happened... ;D p.s turned off PC screen and dropped earphones away and was afraid to turn it back, but didn't wanted to waste my two bucks so gathered up courage and turned screen back on and luckily for me, the death screen was on.

I remember me and my brother rented this game from blockbuster when we were kids. We took the prompt message of ‘this game is best played in the dark’ a bit too seriously and played it in complete darkness with the curtains closed. I don’t think we made it past the first level as it scared the hell out of us. Good times lol

what does it for me is camera movement. they nailed POV realistic shakes which I haven't seen in any games till late ps2-ps3. game was very ahead of time and very close to early ps2 titles

What was funny was this only happened on the 3rd go round of development. First attempt was a top down shooter ala "LOADED", second attempt was a Tomb Raider inspired third person shooter that got a decent ways in before they finally scrapped that and went full first person, I'm pretty sure they reused whatever assets they had started working on for the TPS project.

weird how this seems to be the only footage of the game on youtube where the player is actually using the dual sticks control setup. it's agonizing watching so many videos with the old control scheme, watching them constantly walking into walls or not strafing/looking up & down etc

@@TonyBMan I took a hiatus in fps gaming between the N64 (Goldeneye) and Xbox One (COD: Ghosts). It was so hard adjusting to dual sticks, especially when everyone else already had. I couldn't even pass the second or third level of COD: Ghosts at first. I think gamers today forget it had to be learned.

Although succeeding to give a great visual experience for that time and age it also had all these repetitive game-feel triggers, these sound effects, these particular texture sets and a clean mapping pattern with neat chambers and corridors, perfect sense of space and depth; which captivated me. I remember almost a month in my lifetime just living to return home and experience this whole atmosphere and the gameplay. Simply unique.

the physical copy of this is now super expensive because a dev who worked on this game said they left in a cheat code that allows the game to be disc swapped with CD-R game backups. I guess maybe useful if someone wanted to play a rare super expensive PS1 game on original hardware for free. LOL. It's ironic now because this game is now super rare and expensive.

this game was released in 2000 , one of the few last psx left before the ps2. the psx technology was completely mastered by then. its incredible how consoles at that time were mastered in their last years , and how many things could be achieved when having complete domination of their hardware. compare this game to a launch title like twisted metal 1 or ridge racer, and the difference is insane. they look like they released for 2 different consoles. same for 128 bit era games. ps2 launch games looked like just a more complete dreamcast games versions, and in the end of the ps2 games were looking on par with og xbox and 2005/2006 pc era games, such as metal gear 3 or battlefield 2 modern combat

Okay, some of these alien encounters are still pretty fear-inducing today, was not expecting that. As someone who grew up on AvP games that came after this game where the aliens could stalk you as well as rush you and be gutting you within a second, this was surprising to find out this game still had an effective fear factor.

This was my first rated M game that for some reason I got one day after pre-k. My dad loved aliens and thought I'd love this and boy howdy I could never make it past that first room with all the soldiers firing back at you without being scared to the bones lol. That was the farthest I ever made it. I just stuck to Spyro 2 and Spiderman at that age lol.

The in game reason is because the security guards left on board were supposed to retrieve the research obviously nobody had counted on them being wiped out before they could do it.
