My mother and I saw Alien Resurrection in the exact same mall in which we had seen Alien 3 years earlier. But this time instead of walking out into the food court in stunned silence, we were simply indifferent. We agreed it was bad, but our expectations were subterranean by this point so we couldn't really be any more disappointed than we had been with Alien 3. I will glimpse parts of Alien 3 every so often, but I have never seen any part of Alien Resurrection except the single time in the theater.

I never thought I would be interested to listen to behind the making of alien resurrection but this video is so amazing with information about the making and I can’t wait to part two. Also it’s interesting that all 4 directors had their own vision of alien which is something nowadays we don’t see much director’s visions, but more like follow the studio orders movies.

The Alien franchise started out so brilliantly and as soon as Aliens was a success immediately degenerated into the patient zero of all the problems that plague franchises today; reversing expectations, hiring people who don't care about the material, out-of-control stars who want to make everything about them and their weird ideas... maybe that last one isn't as new but Weaver really needed to know when to sit down. lol

I have a problem with just one scene in this movie, where the crew of the Betty are delivering and handing over their human cargo, even if they did not know exactly what they were going to be used for. Well may be Call did know. But that scene is in a way making then from the usually lovable pirates that we could care about when they started dying, to go fuck yourself and die, pirate scum. It is a horrible fate for an ordinary worker to wake up from cryosleep and see a facehugger staring at him. They should've done the human cargo thing differently and this crew would have certainly endeared themselves to tve audiences, and I'll try to justify that below. You see, the crew of the Betty may resemble a family unit. with Elgyn being the dad, Hillard is the passionate and caring mom, Christy is the cool uncle, Johner is the spoilt brat and bully, Vreiss is the child born with a defect but loved anyways but makes himself useful with other things. And lastly Call, the hot babysitter for Johner and Vreiss. Just a thought!

Hi! You just made my Friday a little better when I got the notification of this new video! I saw almost all of your other videos, I still need to see Basic Instinct just to watch your videos, I feel that they are a good companion after watching the movies Alien Resurrection, what a divisive movie, but is just pure fun for me, I saw it back in the day and I really like it, the mood, the brownish color pallet from Jeunet, a few years ago I read the Dark Horse comics and they got a General Pérez type of commander in charge of weaponized aliens, the tone is weird as Jeunet movies are, but I gotta say all 4 movies are 4 different visions and inputs and the ideas are quite interesting, so I love Alien Resurrection, the under water scene! Oh wow that was a tough shoot I appreciate more the movie for that fact, Sigorney shooting the hoop from his back and Ron breaking character ahaha! That's awesome I can't wait until next Friday! One of your biggest fan from Argentina! Keep the good videos coming!!!

This was the very first Alien movie I got to see in a theater. I was a fan of this horror series very early on as a kid when my parents had the remote and while flipping through channels they let it linger on the original film when Tom Skerritt bit it. No blood? What?! Deleted scene let me know much later what was going on with that. Anyhow, I was hooked on the series. Aliens was the first time I watched a full Alien movie, but it was televised. It blew me away. Alien cubed I saw next on another televised edit and I thought it was decent. Then Alien Resurrection was coming out and I just had to go see it even though I was still too young to purchase a ticket on my own. My mom, unbeknownst to me at the time although I should have guessed, was an Alien fan as well and took me and a friend to see it opening night. Even at the age I was and only seeing glimpses of the first movie or televised edits of the sequels, it was disappointing. It was alright. I wasn't that upset at the movie. It was almost exactly like seeing Phantom Menace. Something wasn't right. Tldr, it's not the worst and I enjoy a good bit of it. Love your content btw Represent, every video is extremely entertaining and informative. Lot of stuff I never knew before about the movies I love. Keep it up man, you rock.

Alien resurrection is a bad alien movie. But it's a decent movie in general, and a fun movie to watch.
@crystalskullsucked7 ай бұрын
Another great analysis man👌 I feel resurrection only works as an homage to the 90s darkhorse comics- in particular the film takes a lot from the comic ‘labyrinth’. In that sense it’s a good comic book film, but if you watch it after alien 1-3 or even worse directly after alien 1, it looks like a travesty. Even as a kid I hated this one but over time and with the state of cinemas decline over the years, movies like this with some practical effects and chances become more and more appealing to me🤷♂️

I disagree with Joss Whedon's assessment. I don't think this script was good to begin with. But I might be biased, because I never liked Joss Whedon's writing.
@miz3k7 ай бұрын
Totally agree. I've never understood all the love that guy gets. He writes some of the worst, cringiest dialogue I've ever heard. The only thing he's done that I liked was the first Avengers movie and I think that had more to do with seeing all of the heroes together on the big screen.
@cheezemonkeyeater7 ай бұрын
@@miz3k There's a lot I can criticize. The most obvious is that he has no sense of characterization. He tends to use the same three basic characters as his main cast and the rest are just indistinguishable plot golems. Also, his writing is painfully generic if you don't enjoy his "everybody is a sarcastic prick but we're gonna portray them as witty" dialogue - which I obviously don't. Then there's the accusations of him stealing his material. That's a more complicated issue and I don't want to come down and say that it's absolutely true he did, but the comparisons are illustrative. Take Fire Fly vs. Outlaw Star, for example. There's lots of points of comparison, but the one thing those points of comparison have in common is that Whedon's version is basically everything the anime did, but way more toned down and boring. Even if the similarities are coincidence, it still draws attention to how Fire Fly just FEELS like a more generic Outlaw Star in a lot of ways. But what I find most infuriating about all of it is how he CAN do better, but he only does so when someone calls him out on it. When someone criticizes him, he goes "I'll show you!" and then actually does write something interesting. So, he can write well, he just chooses not to because his comfort zone is easier and was just as successful. That, more than anything else, is why I dislike him.

But you can’t deny when alien resurrection came and the marketing and trailers we where all so pumped cuz it was like a remake in a way with the better technology we had at the time and those aliens where really scary how they killed the innocent poor weak alien was so horrific

@@cheezemonkeyeater Uh...I agreed with you. Don't know why you felt the need to tell me all that, but ok. I already know and agree with everything you said, except when you said he could do better if he tried, that I don't buy.
@miz3k7 ай бұрын
@@adriel88_ I was pumped for it, until I got to the theater and saw it. Then the excitement was replaced with shock and confusion. The effects were trash, ADI is the worst effects crew in the business, how a master like Stan Winston could crap out Alec Gillis and Tom Woodruff Jr I'll never know. H.R. Giger himself said the xenos looked like bowel movements. Even for the time the CG was bad. The aliens had been changed yet again, first from unknowable bio-mechanical creatures to bugs and now to roaring reptiles covered in slime. Bad plot, bad dialogue, bad direction from a director who was usually consistently good - but he didn't want to direct it anyway. About the only good thing I can say about this is I like the cast, except for Sigourne, she should have stayed gone. Overrated actress who meddles with every production she's a part of, and not for the better. The Alien series never recovered from this atrocity.
@CMDR_Verm7 ай бұрын
You passed a comment in this video and linked it to a still of Lambert being confronted by the alien in the original movie. It struck me as highly relevant with regard to this movie. A dark comedy? That, to me, is a massively insulting way to approach any Alien movie. I'm not pointing the finger at you, but at the director and writer. After watching the original movie, bearing witness to the horror and pain the characters were subjected to, and then someone wants to treat it as a comedy? Obviously that person or peoples have absolutely no idea of the high esteem in which the original movie is still held to this day. As a massive fan of the original Alien, I am ashamed to admit that I had never before looked at Alien: Resurrection in this light. Now that I have, I can only say that I will not be bothering to ever re-watch it again. Alien 3, for all its faults, at least took itself seriously.

Some of the most memorable, beloved parts of Aliens is Bill Paxton being hysterical, or "guess she don't like the cornbread either"... or "Aight folks, you heard the man and you know the drill... Assholes and elbows. Hudson? ...Come here!", etc. etc.
