Alien Sex Fiend - Ignore The Machine (Edit, UK, 1987)

During the early 1980s Alien Sex Fiend had carved a bloody niche for themselves as the originators of techno-goth, a precursor for contemporary outfits the like of Marilyn Manson, Slipknot et al.
ASF fused rockabilly rhythms, Stooges style guitar, gothic horror and synthetic dance beats to create an art form in it's own right. For several years they ruled the outer regions of the whole rock and roll fiasco. The stage shows were legendary ear splitting, headf**king, mutant rage.
The combination of imagery and raw sound inspired acclaimed video artist Karen Bentham to work with the band and for several years afterwards they collaborated on some of the most stunning, truly inspired works of video art ever subjected to magnetic tape. This film contains the very best of those collaborations.

I was 14. Lived in Japan, was at a record store and I wanted something weird. I found it in the A section. I would eventually end up back in the states but listening to more hardcore, but I liked ASF. I think I have around 15+ of their records. I agree this song is prob their "best". I also feel like its very different to their style say 1986+, its more approachable. Anyway, yeah I can always come back to this song.

A Rush fan are we. That's alright. Me too, since I was 10 / 1979 Permanent Waves era. Now, some of come Rush via some route or other. For me, it was in reverse. I found this shite in my mid-teens, about the time it came out. I'm 51 years old and have seen both bands live a few times: Rush/ 3 ; asf/ twice. Many years ago. Both groups standout on their own merits as do the musicians who perform on them. So why shit on your youth by tossing that shite out? You can enjoy both with a different perspective? I kind of lean towards the idea that when artists record an album it stands as a document of that time. Sure it gets boring occasionally; however, I can never seem to locate the expiration date of the e.p. this bore from. No recording does. Enjoy it for it was/is. Bummer about losung Neil 'The Proffessor' Peart. He's the reason I started banging on shit until it sounded good. Got a hodge podge tama kit joined a couple of local Hard Core punk groups. Had good chops. Sweet fills. Could never accomplish the Peart cymbal triplet patterns. But fuck all I tried. And it sounded pretty good.
