i think this is my new favorite HFY story. getting so into the flow of media consumption that you forget yourself is certainly something i can see becoming an unintentional weapon. i think we humans are only so 'resistant' to losing ourselves because we can't hyperfocus for long enough to truly lose ourselves. most of the time at least. so in other words, our media is customized to be extra attention binding, to counteract our natural scatterbrain tendencies and lack of excessive attention spans. hmm... i wonder what would happen if our eldritch horror stories get read by a psionic race? would they create/become Cthulhu themselves, get paranoid/mad and pretty much die out, or manage to contain and purge the eldritch mind construct and save themselves? if you author of this story, or any other author interested, reads this comment, i would very much like to see such a story being created and read here.

@@happyhafer1403 This actually makes me think of something I'm doing in a D&D game, regarding psionic big bads and characters sensing the 4th wall. Hopefully, at least one of the PCs will go crazy (cleric, if you're reading this, you're top of my list) 🤣
@happyhafer14032 ай бұрын
@@johntheherbalistg8756 😈 i like that idea~ and at some point, how about corrupting his divine channel to their god. like, they are in a pickle and the cleric decides only some divine intervention can help, but instead of their god, Cthulhu answers the call. would of course need some foreshadowing to warn him that the divine presents he is connected to feels a bit different, or something like smite is oddly colored, kinda like eldritch blast. that kinda thing.

@@happyhafer1403 I intend to make him lose his faith, while keeping his beliefs. Like, he *knows* his deity exists, insofar as anything does, but he also has reason to suspect that all reality is a fiction, so the deity can't be all that great, really

This was a good one. Made me laugh a lot. Also reminded me of a very short story, more an anecdote really, I heard a while back that spoke about how humanity was full of stupid ideas. That one had a segment that spoke about how humans weren't allowed to visit this one species homeworld without a mental block cuz they were a race of tentacled psionics and after their first meeting with humans their ambassador was found curled up in a corner muttering "Tentacles don't go there" over n over.
