Alien definitely had a high chance of losing, due to the Predators very high intelligence. Though, the Zenomorph used its acid blood to its advantage. Creating a distraction it was able to move quickly, and worry the predator. The predator was then attacked, and then outsmarted by the Zenomorph. The inner-mouth broke the helmet of the predator, killing it.

Not really I mean there are different types of predators (subspecies if you will) since they vary in size, strength, speed, appearance, etc, based on their clan. So the predators weren't "buffed" and remember, the Xenomorph you see in their own franchises take place far into the future so they could have evolved into that but since this movie takes place in this time period, they are how they appear. So no, the alien was not "nerfed" and the predator was not "buffed". Remember that in the predator's respective lore, they hunt Xenomorphs as an initiation of sorts or a rite of passage, it's known as becoming "blooded" or in simpler terms: becoming an adult. This is pretty much how it usually goes down between a Yautja and a Xenomorph.
