I should mention that crocodile-like predatory cattle would initially be warm blooded. But as seen in naked molerats some mammals can actually lose their ability to be fully endothermic. It's surprisingly not unreasonable for some cattle to loose their ability to regulate their body tempreture in warm climates, especially ones that are dry and devoid of resources (as ectothermy would allow them to go longer without food). I could really see the various burrowing "microfaunal" cattle species loosing their endothermy to cope to desert environments, only to spread out and take other niches after evolving in that way. They'd probably loose any hair and and leathery shrivelled skin like mole rats. Honestly the reptile niches could be filled by these weird naked mole-cattle, including supplanting crocodile niches in the process. The project "hamster's paradise" also did something similar with rattiles, however they notably evolved scales made of keratin which wouldn't necessarily always happen if mammals were to ever evolve into reptile niches, as evolution has no set path. Edit: Mammals have an annoying restriction in that if they are born with more or less than 7 neck vertebrae they have an extreme susceptibility to cancer, stillbirths and neuronal problems. But ectothermy/slow metabolisms weirdly solve these issues as seen in sloths and manatees. So speculative "naked mole cattle" could actually have longer or shorter necks than normal. Perhaps we could even get weird leathery snake-cattle?

@gtc2393 ай бұрын
@@frowner_and_coYes it would, why wouldn't it be? Endotherm and Ectotherm are just 2 sides of the metabolic spectrum, creatures that are warm blooded can evolve ectothermy, they're not locked to it, it's just metabolism.

The idea of "Vulture cattle" sounds absolutely incredible. With flight fully achieved nearly every niche that was available to birds is now available to them. But with having thumb hooks, the possibility of developing quadruped body plans by re-deriving the thumb hooks into hooves basically opens the floodgate for pterosaur cattle (Ptero-cattle :D). With the scavenging niche opening up the fliers are bound to be the first to take advantage and may spark a separate arms race, where scavengers must evolve to become increasingly large and belligerent to effectively claim corpses from predators. This, like many other arms races, will likely be enough to bypass some or all of the limitations mammals have in flight gigantism compared to pterosaurs. Simply put: Giant, 40 foot winged, corpse-eating cow-dragons. edited for details left out.

@@AncientWildTV I imagine since they're mammals it would be something like hyenas, where they develop superbly muscled jaws and piercing teeth so that they can crush bone. The herbivores would likely taste most like regular beef, but extremely large or extremely small sizes can alter that. Smaller animals tend to be richer in flavor (rabbit, goat) while larger animals are more mild (bison). Physical activity can also change flavor, just compare the flavor profiles between deer and sheep. Carnivorous mammals tend to be less palatable to humans, with tighter muscle fibers and different amino acids present. The main factor in most tastey animals is metabolism, with low to medium metabolisms tasting the best (fish, to alligator, to chicken, to cow). If you want me to attempt a speculative flavor profile of all known clades, I can do that. But these generalizations should help

The cheetah-like cow could be Acinotaurus, literally meaning “immovable cow”. This seems like a strange choice at first, but the scientific name for cheetahs is Acinonyx, meaning something to the effect of “immovable claw”, referring to the fact that cheetahs’ claws are not retractable. The idea of naming cheetah-like animals after cheetahs comes from the American cheetah, scientific name Miracinonyx, which basically just means “wonderful cheetah”. As such, Acinotaurus would really mean something to the effect of “cheetah cow”, as the form of Latin/Greek we use for scientific names is sometimes not actual Latin/Greek.

I could imagine these omnivorous asterioides Diet range depending on species (being generalist like black bears to almost carnivorous like polar bears) and whether or not if minofelis are in the region or not but could also be deadly kleptoparasitism using their size and forward facing horns to scared off most minofelis or smaller asterioides who don't want to be impaled. Okay, this might be a bit picky, but how did they evolve such teeth. I mean, cows don't have upper teeth, right? So my question is, how do they evolve in the first place? Especially because teeth are changing quite slow in evolutionary terms.
@darth39113 ай бұрын
Evolutionary speaking of the cattle in the video would never happen. What would happen realistically is the cattle would specialize in eating different grasses and weeds, become smaller due to the lack of food, gain different fur and fur less species of cow. After all that carnivorous cattle would eventually start to appear. I do not think long necked cows similar to Giraffes would appear as it’d take to long to evolve with the scarce resources. (Remember Giraffes always had longish necks, they just gradually evolved to be longer and longer.) Additionally with there’d be little motive for any of the cattle to evolve into aquatic animals. (An idea mentioned in the video.) That’s something even less likely than Giraffe like cattle. Moving back to the carnivorous cattle which the video focused on it’d definitely take a long time but less than the other ideas thrown in the video. First the digestive system would need to evolve slightly to be more adapt to eating meat, this means omnivorous cattle would come first then slowly become solely carnivorous. Teeth evolution would have to happen around the time between the omnivorous and carnivorous evolutions. Even then I don’t think it’d be anything as extreme as shown in the video.
