Sig M17 vs M18 9mm Pistols

Which should you get between the Sig M17 vs M18 pistols?

The Sig M17 was chosen as the new service pistol for the US armed forces, with the M18 being adopted as a compact variant for some branches or as the preferred service pistol in others such as the US Marine Corps and the US Air Force.
Which should you get? That really depends on what you intend to use it for. The M18 is a bit better for daily carry purposes, especially for concealed carry, while the M17 is one of the best contemporary service pistols you can get.

Both guns share the same frame and trigger group, at 5.5 inches in overall height and a M1913 accessory rail for mounting a laser or a light.

Both guns come with 17-round flush-fit magazines and are chambered in 9mm, and 21-round extended magazines are available from Sig Sauer.
SIGLITE night sights are standard, as is a mounting plate for a pistol optic.
Where they differ is the slide and the barrel. The M18 has a 3.9-inch barrel, shortening the overall length to 7.2 inches, compared to the M17's 4.7-inch barrel that brings overall length to 8 inches. The extra material also increases unloaded weight from 28.1 oz to 29.6 oz.
The M17 is slightly bigger and heavier than the M18, which would seem to favor the smaller gun in deciding between the Sig M17 vs M18 for a carry gun. However, the M18 isn't the most compact variant among Sig Sauer handguns; it's more the case that the M18 is a Sig M17 that's made slightly easier for EDC purposes.

Hope the m18's that the navy bought arent like the civilian one. Quality of the military grade ones are pretty bad. But my buddy whos got a civilian one said the military ones just way lower manufacturing quality.

I've been doing some research on these and found them extremely interesting. I heard these have had a problem with firing at random times or misfiring when it's dropped or even in the holsters, is this still the case or has Sig fixed that issue?

Their duty carry line is but non of the others are yet that I've seen and I was just on the site yesterday looking for optic compatible holsters. That being said the duty line has a hood that covers the entirety of the optic which is nice.
