@@angeb225 The Special Edition contains the scene where Burke reveals to Ripley prior to her inquest of the passing of Amanda Ripley-McClaren at the age of 66, two years prior to when Ripley was found. The Special Edition also exposits about the lives of the families and children in LV-426 right before Burke tells Ripley they lost contact with LV-426, which makes the viewer empathize with Newt's loss. Personally, I prefer the Special Edition because it expounds on the lore of Alien and strengthens the "maternal" themes of the film. However, I understand why the theatrical cut was released the way it was. It felt like the theatrical is more appropriate for a thriller-action film, because the tension continuously builds up until they reach the colony and signs of Alien attack increase the dread, as we wouldn't know that the colonists were facehuggered at that point (since Newt's dad's facehugging wasn't included in the Theatrical Cut)

Fun fact, the original script James Cameron adjusted into Aliens was originally called Mother, which is why the contrast between Ripley as a loving and strong mother and the Alien Queen as an evil Mother of Monsters is very much intentional. And as other comments have pointed out, in the special edition Ripley has a daughter whose life she completely missed due to the alien, which is part of why she cares so much about Newt. Shes a cute kid no one want to see die obviously but to Ripley she is a chance of redemption after losing her daughter and her everything The Xenomorph queen was very intelligent, to the point that it understood Ripley's threat to her eggs and called off her guards. The reason the queen hunts down Newt specifically in the final fight is because she recognizes Newt as someone important to Ripley in the same way she valued her eggs.

"Squish it!" Ripley can't; if that acid blood gets all over the place, that ship is toast. That's why they couldn't kill the original alien...it would destroy the ship. On planet, you could squish those bugs all day long, but not on a ship.

What is great about the Alien movies, is the Humans aren't idiots... outside corporate. The monsters are smart and adapt and the humans do the same. The Marines in the hive got ambushed and lost much of their ammo. As soon as they knew what and how many they were up against, the remaining marines put up a damn good fight. To bad most were dead. Alien is a 5 star horror film and Aliens a 5 star Action-military-horror film. The movies flow together seamlessly even though the genres switch. Wish more Sequels took note of that.

After the box office success of "Aliens," Dark Horse Comics published a sequel, "Alien: Outbreak," that portrayed Newt at 17 years old having spent the years since being rescued in "Aliens" confined to a psychiatric facility haunted by visions of the Xenomorphs. Hicks has left the Marine Corps and lives a reclusive life because of PTSD and his acid scarred face, but he comes out of seclusion to break Newt out of confinement to save her from being forced into having brain surgery. I don't remember what Bishop and Ripley were up to, but they eventually help Ripley and Hicks fight against a Xenomorph infestation of Earth. The "Alien 3" movie completely contradicted the story of "Alien: Outbreak," so a two part sequel comic called "Newt's Tale" was published that revealed in the final panel that Newt's adventures in "Newt's Tale" and "Alien: Outbreak" were all just a dream she had while in hypersleep. It's too bad because, even though I wasn't the biggest fan of "Alien: Outbreak," I liked it more than "Alien 3."

I knew you guys would eat this one up. 😄 Choosing to watch Romulus potentially next/ break up the Ripley saga, I wouldn't recommend, maybe? Romulus nods to the previous movies throughout (including the Prometheus ones), so for multiple reasons, I'd just keep going in order of release. Either way, I'm excited for you guys to watch more!

If you end up watching the third one, people are gonna try to push the extended cut, but the theatrical cut has a much better ending scene and NOT an unnecessary subplot that was cut for a reason. 4th film is SUPER queer coated.

During the building tension while Ripley and Newt were locked in Medlab with the facehuggers, I could just imagine if the cat jumped up on the back of your chair at that moment. I think your soul might've left your body at that moment if that happened. :D

Alien Romulus does make a slight bridge from Prometheus and Alien Covenant (the 2 prequels) and the first Alien.I don't think they're crucial to be able to follow along in Alien Romulus, but there are a few plot points that will make more sense if you have seen all of them. I actually really like the two prequels, there is so much expansion in the lore and such great casts.

The first one is a true original and a perfect horror/sci-fi. The second one is more an action/sci-fi adventure and although really enjoyable, a lot of my American friends (at the time) felt the movie gave a really bad image of America with the gung-ho attitude and making the American soldiers out to be gun toting idiots etc. The first two movies divide the fans to this day. Great to see your reaction. You have some even more controversial Alien movies to come lol. x

in the extended version of this you find out Ripley had a daughter who died of old age shortly before she was found so it hits even more why she wouldn't leave Newt behind. Honestly out of all the movies I wouldn't recommend the next one, just skip to 4 sis, that's my advice. Three pissed me off so much AND they refused help from the OG HR Giger daddy of the alien designs.

Chey, I never noticed this but, when you speak in a more soft and calm/deeper tone manner, I can totally hear Michael Biehn's (Cpl. Hick's) voice if I close my eyes. I'm sure it clicked for me on this reaction, for obvious reasons, lol. Not sure if anyone else hears it, or if I'm just trippin. 😂 However, let it be known, that it's only certain specific times when you talk, it's not a frequent thing. I can never compare Alien to Aliens. They're not the same genre. They don't even have the same director. Alien is a horror film and Aliens is an action film. Aliens is probably easier to rewatch than Alien since Alien relies on longer, quiet scenes to create the atmosphere.

I respectfully recommend stopping with ALIENS. I personally like ALIEN 3 but I suspect that you won’t. Everything after that you can safely skip except for the game ALIEN ISOLATION.

The scene when Ripley learns Newts name is the perfect example of the difference with the first film to the second. The first film is well written, the second one is not.

You guys watched the wrong Aliens. You wanted Aliens Special Edition. It adds a lot and explains Ripley's immediate connection to Newt. It also explains how the Alien infestation started.

You've got to watch the Special Edition/Directors Cut now. It adds so much to the story and makes things make more sense. It's one of the few films that I'd recommend watching the Directors Cut straight out of the gate. The other one is "The Abyss" another James Cameron film. You lose so much watching the theatre cuts on both of those films.
