Game is actually a lot harder than I thought it would be, looks good (you can turn the X after a kill and a bunch of other things OFF form your UI to make it more immersive), sounds amazing and there are more Aliens to shoot than you can imagine. We WILL be playing together and later missions are bloody crazy.

After playing B4B open beta and L4D one and two. Game looks and feels like the 4th interation. Few new cool features to bring in thise medium and long terms goals. But this Aliens game has ALIENS!!

I mean let's be honest here. Alien isolation took the concept of amnesia and mixed it with the alien world. Which I think based on the movies it's clearly a match that was meant to be. So how does a developer make a shooter with aliens that resembles aliens the movie without the people who love the alien franchise screeching that it isn't like alien isolation or the movies. What I think needs to be done is something as close as you can get to the second movie. This game so far doesn't seem that bad.

The story of this game continues directly after the events of the book Aliens Infiltrator so that is really nice for us lore nerds. Other than that, this looks like a solid co-op horde shooter - hard to really go wrong with these.

While you were talking about the motion tracker being used for suspense I was immediately reminded of the first two or three missions of Aliens vs. Predator 2010 where as a squishy human with only a dinky 9mm pistol you were constantly being stalked. And everything set off that tracker.

i remember back in the old alien vs predator days playing as a marine with a smart gun usually resulted in a lot of salt from the predator players. they didnt like the fact that the smart gun tracked its target. nevermind their shoulder cannon as well as the disc weapon both tracked the target even after being fired.

There's a free game on Steam called Alien Swarm: Reactive Drop. It's a top-down game, but has some similarities to this game; you have a 4-person team, which means you can have up to 3 humans playing co-op with you. Which is, frankly, far better than relying on A.I., due to the different jobs/roles (medic, tech, etc). For free, though, it was hard to beat. This definitely looks like it could be a blast co-op.

I remember that game! It got kind of janky due to the environment being 3D but your weapons being mostly locked to a horizontal plane unless you locked onto an enemy crawling over something. IIRC, there is (or was) a mod to make it first-person - though it was probably close to ten years ago when I heard that, so no idea if it's still around or works anymore.

I do hav one gripe with this game. They failed with the grapple camera. Looking at the grapple from above would be nowhere near as scary as being forced into first person and seeing it’s mouth try to snap at you, dripping drool and that toxin.

And this is why Aliens don't work as a threat unless you're either unarmed or clueless: They're squishy melee-only horror monsters. Sure they can be a threat to people with guns...if you invent versions that are either unrealistically tough or somehow have ranged attacks.

@aWraithsSoulSince when were Aliens anything more than acid-blooded rape metaphors that only actually worked because the heroes were: A: Unarmed space truckers, or B: Soldiers who didn't know what they were going up against and still did well. Xenomorphs are terrible enemies for a shooter game because they don't work outside absurdly large suicide hordes. The only Xenos that do anything more than run at people with guns were invented by video games so they'd be an actual threat. Also, you're going to have to explain how they're immune to all NBC ordinance, let alone bullets, when bog-standard pistols and shotguns work just fine. Put them anywhere that isn't a dark confined space and watch them die even faster than normal.

This game showed up on my radar a month or so ago when the OutsideXBox crew did a brief gameplay preview of it, and it looked pretty solid then. I'm glad to see the Jingles analysis seems to confirm that; looks like I'll be picking this up. ...Though I'd be lying if I said I'm not mildly disappointed to hear about the NPC-class AI teammates. I'm actually a little curious why they did that: the AI clearly has at least some situational awareness if it automatically does things like take cover and revive teammates, so letting the player customize some autocasts (or ideally, issue commands like you could in tactical games like Rainbow Six New Vegas and Republic Commando) would go a long way toward making them part of your team instead of them just being a bit of extra DPS and an additional target to split up enemy attention. In-universe, Bishop was an integral part of the team with a shared camaraderie and his own initiative. Oh well - maybe it's a combat-synthetic thing, and no one feels like hanging out with them. I'll have to see what sort of matchmaking the game has, because it sounds like having teammates with class abilities introduces a lot of variables even if you don't hike the difficulty up.

I kind of feel they are missing trick by not letting you level up your AI bots along with you. They could make it so they leveled slower than humans to encourage Co-Op, but still let you upgrade them to something other think other than basic marine drone.

On one hand, I think I know one of the artists who worked on the game and I'm happy for him having completed the project. On the other hand, I'm just looking at this and thinking "Well, this is definitely not for me." It's not that I don't like the Aliens gaming franchise (one of my favorite games ever was Aliens vs Predator 2), but when you got the notification informing you of a completed daily objective--well, there goes any immersion that I might have had.

Saw this first being reviewed by a compatriot of yours - Ian Higton of Eurogamer and I hoped then you would summon that legendary Jingles courage to play it. A great pity you didn't do this in first person as you did with Alien Isolation though. I and my daughter hope you will do the game as a series from now on. We love Jingles dealing with Aliens as only Jingles can. And don't worry Alien Isolation scared the crap out of me too despite making it through. A game I could never do again.

I do enjoy the way you have to fight evil corpo synths. It reminds me of Aliens where Ripley says to Burke, "At least you don't see them [xenomorphs] trying to fuck each other over for a profit." The sounds are great. Taking me back to my childhood nightmares!

Slight correction to the spitter alien. I believe it debuted in Alien: Resurrection. I believe it's the root cause for why the black guy dies. Yes he's dropped but he's dropped because he is injured by a spitter, if I recall correctly.

They should have had the tracker as a handheld device. Like you would hear it ping, but if you wanted to know from where, or in what direction the next mission objective is, then you need to put your big gun away and rely on at most a handgun. Then you would be building suspense with it in this game.

Just watched your Jurassic World 2 video. And was thinking , . . . What could you breed with a Dino that would make it An absolute Murdersorus. And then I watch this. And it seems to be a Perfectly good logical start for the breeding program. Take #1 Velociraptor egg, Add #1 Zeno morph egg toss in a hand full of Yautja DNA. Mix in a couple handful's of Human psychopathic genius DNA. Add some Venom and Hulk DNA too the mix. Maybe a lil bit of Deadpool Crazy. Then graft it onto a Terminator Exoskeleton, & inject it full of nanobots. Yeah that is a good start for a Murdersorus.

Motion tracker is too good at it's job - aliens look like distinct dots rather than vague smudges. Hell you can even count 'em. Hopefully it's difficulty dependent. Also, lol @ alien running in, slapping you across the face then sprinting away.
