The secrets you found messing around in the easier difficulties for enjoyment became absolutely crucial for survival in hardcore mode. Extra armor hidden in a hackable locker was the difference between life and death. Awesome.

Alien: Isolation and the first Dead Space were quite well done with their horror elements in more recent years. Still, this one was a masterclass in overwhelming the player with fear back in the day.

Dead Space series for me ... but the beauty of this was that I played this at age of 14-15. I remember when I had the game for the first time I finished the Predator and Alien campaign. But I was not able to play the Marine one because I was scared shitless :D Had to persuade myself for like 6 months :D

Unfortunately it's very unlikely this game will ever see the light of day. AvP 2 is currently trapped in licensing hell and it's likely to stay that way unless someone takes notice and really goes out of their way to save it.

The big problem is that it was made by Monolith and published by Sierra back in the day, Monolith is still around and owned by WB (who don't own the rights to AvP) but Sierra was bought by Vivendi which later merged with Activision, shut down and then revived in name only to re-release games formerly developed by Sierra. So basically Monolith can't do anything because they work under WB who don't own the rights to AvP (and would need to fight Disney for it) and Sierra exists only in name (and is owned by Activision-Blizzard). It would, unfortunately, take a miracle for an AvP2 remaster to happen.

Andrew Frosty Harrison is the single most hardcore marine in the franchise. - Slaughters through hordes of Xenomorphs, loads of Wayland-Yutani mercs, and manages to defeat a Predator that was spamming his shoulder cannon shots. - Escapes from a W.Y. prison cell and escapes the pods using mostly a gun and knife. - Goes not once, not twice, but thrice into an Alien hive for his marine homies. Third time with A.L.I.C.E. for some overwhelming firepower. - Escapes the planet with his marine homies but not before holding the line and having their ride blow up the Alien Queen. - All with simply a combination of his skills and arsenal. Not bad for a Colonial Marine eh? Sadly he doesn't get the girl.

Many thanks for the excellent playthrough. This game genuinely terrified me when i first played it. The lack of enemies in the first two missions really builds the tension to a massive crescendo ... then Boom! Back when single player games were so well written.

How I can tell, that you are not playing that game first time - walking with knife in those corridors. When I played that game for first time, i was scared as a little boy and fired pulse rifle multiple times in vain. It was genius move to keep first contact with Aliens so late in the game.

The first chapter with the POC Predator killing the prisoners. It really builds the tension. And the rescuing mission in the Hive, that's one of the most scary missions in the whole game.

It's a great example of visual storytelling because we see the bridge get blown up and the prisoners killed, the people meant to be grabbing guns picked off by the Predator (in different orders, as you're coming from the Complex), then we find the map/plan, and then finally the "other truck" coming through for their extraction which is blown to hell in front of you. They did things like this *all* the way through the three campaigns. AvP3 may have better visuals because it came out in '10, but the atmosphere, the storyline, and the game design were all pathetic in comparison to 2's/PH's. Both the single and multiplayer were so enjoyable and re-playable that no other Alien/Marine game since came even close! Just small things like the offset of using the OP minigun that was so loud when pre-spinned that others could hear you from miles ahead without you ever firing a single burst yet, or the ability to take down practically any enemy with the shotgun if you used the correct ammo and good aim at the cost of sluggish partial reloads and short range. Why didn't Gearbox or Rebelion bother to implement any of that is beyond me, but this game will forever be the best AvP out there.

This particular entry by Monolith sets a standard that none have been able to match; Rebellion's 2010 AvP, Colonial Marines, and Fireteam Elite all fail to catch the tension and atmosphere. And story (especially the marine campaign) is much more engaging here.

At 1:58:00 I will never forget this place. I remember it took me half a year to finally get the courage to finish that part of the map during my childhood. Previously I felt little bit safer due to marines being close to me or at least talking. Now at that part it was just me, girl voice in the radio and fully infested alien place. Even today that whole place still creeps me.

What I find intriguing about this sequence is how detailed and full of references to the original film "Alien" are spread across your face during the three campaigns, especially the Marine tale. When I saw the hive of the xenomorphs and Space Jockey together in the battle against the Queen it was totally a nostalgic explosion of the films, really a masterpiece.

I've only played AvP2010 multiplayer and while I loved it there were a lot of flaws. Predator was really overpowered, same with the smartgun for the marine. If we could get a revival game ala Doom 2016 where they bring back some old school elements like the speed of AvP classic and find a way to balance all species that would be amazing.

AvP2 multiplayer was and is still hugely in favor of predator, since it is old game i doubt any one would re balance it, although i dont really mind predator being op as it is what it supposed to be. Great game :)

As dark as it is, the worldbuilding in this game is still incredible. Edit: Xavier was also the WY security guard the Iron Bears framed for artifact theft in the first Corporate mission in Primal Hunt.
