YES PLEASE. I have a weird affection for the Underworld movies, or at least the first one, which I saw when it came out. Among other things, I like that they're apocalyptically geeky ("We need to mix the vampire and werewolf bloodlines and inject ourselves with Derek Jacobi's blood and then shoot five million depleted phlebotinum bullets into this floor to make a door!") but also take themselves very seriously in a way which I find vaguely charming rather than just pathetic. They also represent an interesting and increasingly rare middle ground between big-budget blockbusters and super-cheap genre movies like Uwe Boll's stuff or indie horror.

So the directors acknowledged how dark the picture is in a post on AvPG (an Alien and Predator fan forum) and the reason for it is... a post production error during colour correction. It happened late in the day and when the issue was raised with Fox they refused to pump any further money into the film to fix it (maybe it required recalling prints etc). It was promised to be fixed for the home video release but once more Fox just shrugged and released what they had. And thus this terrible film remains shrouded in impenetrable darkness.

What you forgot to talk about, and may not have even realised, is that when the movie Star Wars, later retitled as "Star Wars: A New Hope", was in early production, its production title was actually "Blue Harvest".
@Freshie207
@Freshie207 2 жыл бұрын
Blue Harvest was the codename for Return of the Jedi, not the Original Star Wars, naturally that didn't have a codename as nobody knew what Star Wars was. But for ROTJ the codename was used as every California location charged extra when they heard the 3rd Star Wars was shooting there. So Blue Harvest (subtitled Horror from Beyond the Stars) was picked to sound like a low budget horror film, of which there were plenty in the early 80's.

@@KeithFraser82 I was around 6 or 7 when I watched a small amount of aliens with my dad although I only remember the scene where newt says the aliens come at night. He thought I was too young but my neighbors parents would rent him and I pretty much anything we wanted. We proceeded to watch all the alien series before I was 9. I was horrified that a face hugger was gonna be in my bedroom and slept with a pillow over half my face for a lot longer than I'll admit. As much as they scarred me, aliens and predators were the first things I ever attempted to draw. I dropped out of art school but while there I had a drawing teacher that was dope who immediately asked me if I was influenced heavily by H. R. Geiger's works and I had never made the connection of just how much these movies influenced me until that moment. It was shockingly obvious I just didn't see it

I mean it walks the line of Predator from Silvestri and Horners Aliens -I mean you can not nor ever will top Predator and Aliens respective score's but this film does a very decent job at replicating the . . . . feeling if ya know what I mean and it does the best it can do and adds a bit of that "aliens/predator feeling to the film. The sound effects of the aliens ripped right from Aliens, its a switch seeing a Predator set up a kill box v.s Arnold/Glover -COOL! The trophy room shot - SICK! The fights and effects look amazing - too bad its too dark to see anything. Its not a horrible film...even a "bad" one . . but it could have been so much better! Cape Cod, MA

Nice video! Many people want their main characters to be bulky and look like they lift weight 24/7. Its the same with batman. Batman is supposed to be nimble and quick but somehow people dont like the new batman look and they want the batman to look like superman, which makes no sense to me. Glad they made predator look more lean

I always liked this one way more than the first. It actually plays to the strengths of both factions (Predator with gadgets and what could charitably be described as tactics vs Alien with numbers and brute strength) and is Rated R for Radical violent scenes for no reason.

I was one of those suckers who paid for a movie ticket for this. At first I was angry that I paid for something I couldn't barely see, the theater was pitch black for most of the runtime. But when I saw reviews of this movie with edited brightness, I was actually happy I didn't have to see any of this. Well, sucks for the ticket money anyway.

I actually loved this movie, but I'm going to throw on caveats as to why 1) first experience with the alien franchise 2) I was at most 8 years old and a big halo fan at the time so anything with guns and aliens was my thing I think if I rewatched it now I would think it was terrible

Fan fact: In the extended version, the Predator ship from the first movie gets into outer space (around Saturn I think), and then a smaller ship detaches from it. That ship goes back to Earth (probably to drop a Predator to hunt) but instead it crushes.

I'd love if they rebooted AVP. Maybe as a TV series. But only if this time they follow a plot more similar to the comics and games. None of this modern day shit. It has to take place after Aliens.

I watched this on a not legit DVD back in the day and i thought the colours must have messed up along the way. Then saw it again later on a proper DVD and it was actually worse. Crazy movie, shame you can't see it well. Great review guys enjoy the break, maybe head to Wobbies World!!!

Yeah, I quite liked this one, despite its flaws. It felt like what would actually happen if xenomorphs ever made it to Earth - indiscriminate killing, followed by the government nuking the area affected. Plus the stuff in the pregnancy ward made my skin crawl just like the chest-burster scene in the first Alien.
